Rants and Raves for Nove 24

Hypocrisy!

“We all know that many of the Latinos in our community are here illegally. They drive illegally and they have no insurance. Yet, they are provided services at taxpayers’ expense. So do we continue the hypocrisy? We should either be making cases and deporting them, or declare that it’s okay for them to break the law.

So as a citizen of these United States, and a taxpayer, if I should report some of these individuals — give time and place where they can be found — will law enforcement do anything about it?

We’ll be waiting for an answer.

Police situation

“The Norman Park City Council has gotten a bit testy about the police situation.  All the citizens are asking is that the City Council explain, in writing just why they do not want police around. We are simply asking them to explain their decision which should not be difficult if their decision was sound to begin with.

Food stamps

“For the person who has a question in reference to food stamps, what you need to understand that the person who is committing this crime will be caught eventually... and yes this is a crime, a crime of stealing from the government and the taxpayers.

And the person who is committing the crime needs to understand that you driving around in your luxury car, owning two or three businesses and a house, needs to know what you do in the dark shall come to light. May the Lord have mercy on you.

It paid off

“Who gives a rip if the football team went to the game the day before and spent the night.

You ever heard of resting up before a game? You ever spent hours on a bus and played for such high stakes?

Looks to me like it paid off in the end.

Fired up

“Great win Packers!!! Packer nation is fired up and is behind y'all 100 percent.

Hitler, you say?

“I was reading and enjoying Mr Psalmond's letter to the editor listing Obama's failures, until the very last sentence comparing the president to Hitler. The intelligent argument turned into an unintelligent and sounded like the rest of ‘crazies’. If Obama was Hitler, the writer would have lost his hands he used to write the letter by now.

Mole hill

“After reading the article about the county redoing the zoning request, I am still trying to figure out Mr. McMullen's point. He didn't care that it passed, but made a complaint. Sounds like me a mountain was made out of a mole hill.

    Dear editor:
Wildlife rehabilitators, or rehabbers as they are known in the animal community, are very special people. They have acquired the knowledge and experience that is needed to work with injured and orphaned wildlife. Licensed by the Georgia Department of Natural Resources, and if caring for federally protected species, the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service, a wildlife rehabilitator’s ultimate goal is to take an injured or orphaned animal, get it healthy and return it to its natural habitat.

Remember back in the early sixties when people were digging bomb shelters in fear of the “Big One” being dropped on us? I recall how an alarm would go off at school, and we would get under our desks. What a joke! Get under our desks when one entire wall was glass!

  • Outpouring of love

    Dear editor:
What words can be added to so many that have been said in prayer and praise for our Haley?  We have witnessed an outpouring of love and sacrifice for our families, and we truly cannot express our feelings of humility and gratitude.

When the Declaration of Independence was signed, we as a Country, The United States of America, were declaring our Freedom and Liberty.

  • What's at stake here?

    Dear editor
It looks like one of my worst fears is about to happen. With President Obama’s withdrawal of all American troops from Iraq it appears the democratic government we set up in Iraq is getting ready to come apart.  The Shiites and Sunnis are at each others throats and the Kurds and Turkey are already shooting at each other. Iran seems to be paused to take up the vacuum we will be left and obtain a nuclear weapon. In 2007 the Democrats were clamoring for President Bush to get our troops out of Iraq.

Should candidates for county positions have to run for a party's nomination?

No. Political parties are meaningless at this level.
Yes. It helps voters know where they stand on issues.
With all the problems the state's facing, this is a non-issue.
