Rants and Raves for Novemeber 18

Crime lab

“The crime lab is due to be closed in March. Why doesn’t the city and county get together to see if it is feasible to own it. Lowndes county is building their own. We can contract the services to other counties that would have to send to Macon. Just a thought.

Go Pack!

“Packer fans head to Atlanta Friday.  Stephenson's stadium holds 15,600 people.  Let's make sure we have lots of Colquitt County people in it.

The chief

“No money for the police department?  The Observer noted that under Chief Bedal, Norman Park had a self- sufficient police department. I guess he wasn't that bad a chief after all.

Proud

“I have never been more proud of my community than I was this past Friday night at Westlake High School. Never mind the sportsmanship and discipline displayed by the players and coaches. I'm talking about the way we looked and behaved before/after the game. Tip of the hat Colquitt Countians and ‘Go Pack Go’.

Senseless?

“Don't you hate when the media describes something as a ‘senseless’ crime? Is there such a thing as a’ sensible’ crime?

Water issues

“NASA shouldn't have reported that water is on the moon. Alabama and Florida will sue them for it.

Holiday

“Please everyone, let's be sure to say 'Merry Christmas' and not 'Happy Holidays' next month. ‘Twas the night before the holiday and all thru the house...' just doesn't sound right, does it?

Shop local

“The holiday season is upon us. Please keep the local merchants in mind, especially with the economy being as weak as it is. Support the local guys. We’re all in this together.

Whose duties?

“The problem is the mayor and council of Norman Park want to run the Police Department. Until they realize that a police department needs to be run by the chief and not the mayor, they will always have problems.

The money

“Could someone explain why Obama hasn't got the $70 billion he said Iraq had as a surplus? I remember him campaigning about it and, as usual, blaming Bush. It's been almost a year. That money would come in handy.

  • We better wake up

    Dear editor:
Have our GOP representatives gone to sleep or are they refusing to act for the people they are supposed to represent? The Obama administration has contracted a Spanish company called SCYTAL, to tabulate the 2012 November presidential election.

  • Dwain Walden.jpg May God bless my Uncle Henry

My uncle once noted on his return from a fishing trip that he caught so many fish he couldn’t put them all in one pile.
That’s how I feel trying to keep up with all the causes and organizations that either require support groups or else they comprise support groups.

  • A kind humanity

    Dear editor:
Humanity. One word. That word can translate into many other words. Some would say humanity is dark, greedy and bent on world domination. Others may say humanity is sweet, kind and caring. I myself witnessed a small part of a loving, caring humanity the other day.

  • Why it's a bad tax

    Dear editor:
In regards to the Transportation TSplost Tax:  The statement, “Economic development suffers if we don’t pass this tax” is not a valid statement, because Georgia has always been behind the 8 ball in regards to transportation, but yet look at the growth we have experienced; being behind in transportation didn't hinder economic growth. Georgia now ranks 11th in the country as of 2010 and this occurred mostly since 1995. The economic vitality of Georgia is alive and well considering the slump the country is in.

  • I am saddened

    Dear editor:
A couple of weeks ago, I attended Field Day at Sunset Elementary where my oldest daughter attends the Pre-K program. I was deeply saddened to hear that Mrs. Vicky Watson will be retiring this year.
