Rants and Raves for Nov 5

A meeting

“So why don’t the citizens of Norman Park call a community meeting to discuss the issues involving law enforcement and city leadership? Let everyone put their thoughts out on the table. If the leadership wants to attend, they might learn something.

Low turnout

“It seemed a very low turnout in the Moultrie city election. I realize it was just one post up for bids, but I would think if we are going to sacrifice our soldiers to help secure our democracy, we would practice more of what we preach at the polls

To celebrate

“Why don’ we have a big celebration each year the magnitude of the Mule Day event over in Calvary, Ga.? Our spring festival is nice but it doesn’t compare to Mule Day. I think it would be great for the community to give this some thought.

Novelty gone?

“I see with the elections on Tuesday in other states that Republicans gained some ground. Maybe the novelty of Obama has worn off.

The 5-way

“I was watching traffic at our notorious five-way intersection yesterday and it came to my attention that the only reason we are not having a lot of wrecks there is that everyone is actually scared to pull out from one of the side streets. Maybe fear works in this instance.

Caution

“With the cold weather coming on and being a former firefighter, I would like for those people who use space heaters to use extreme caution.

Applaud them

“We have a veterans breakfast coming up here in Moultrie. Please remember what these people have afforded us. If you see a veteran, thank him or her for their services.

Big crowd

“Let’s get a big crowd up to go to the Northside game Friday night. This would be a good way to show our team and our coaches how much we appreciate a great year they have given us. Let’s make a lot of noise.

Just thugs?

“I’ve been told that we really don’t have street gangs here in Moultrie, just a lot of thugs out there stealing and doing damage. But the fact is, the results are the same so what we call them is irrelevant.

Crime

“I have a question: With all the property being stolen around here, where is it being resold? My understanding is that a lot of it is linked to the drug trade. Is it being sold out of town?

  • We better wake up

    Dear editor:
Have our GOP representatives gone to sleep or are they refusing to act for the people they are supposed to represent? The Obama administration has contracted a Spanish company called SCYTAL, to tabulate the 2012 November presidential election.

  • Dwain Walden.jpg May God bless my Uncle Henry

My uncle once noted on his return from a fishing trip that he caught so many fish he couldn’t put them all in one pile.
That’s how I feel trying to keep up with all the causes and organizations that either require support groups or else they comprise support groups.

  • A kind humanity

    Dear editor:
Humanity. One word. That word can translate into many other words. Some would say humanity is dark, greedy and bent on world domination. Others may say humanity is sweet, kind and caring. I myself witnessed a small part of a loving, caring humanity the other day.

  • Why it's a bad tax

    Dear editor:
In regards to the Transportation TSplost Tax:  The statement, “Economic development suffers if we don’t pass this tax” is not a valid statement, because Georgia has always been behind the 8 ball in regards to transportation, but yet look at the growth we have experienced; being behind in transportation didn't hinder economic growth. Georgia now ranks 11th in the country as of 2010 and this occurred mostly since 1995. The economic vitality of Georgia is alive and well considering the slump the country is in.

  • I am saddened

    Dear editor:
A couple of weeks ago, I attended Field Day at Sunset Elementary where my oldest daughter attends the Pre-K program. I was deeply saddened to hear that Mrs. Vicky Watson will be retiring this year.

If the vote were held today, would you support the Transportation Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax?

Yes. We need these projects, and this is the only way we can pay for them.
No. We don't need any more taxes.
No. The process is undemocratic and wrong.
