Rants and Raves for October 30

Perspective

“I’m relatively new to Moultrie and Colquitt County. I just want to say I love this community and I love this Rants and Raves column. Having taught American history, I relish community newspapers which I consider to represent t he very heart of our country — real people who pay taxes, go to church, maybe drink a little beer and fish off the bridge. I know some people think that the comments that appear here are ridiculous. I would say, go back and study your history and appreciate this forum.

Applause

“Having moved to Moultrie from a much larger city, I enjoy reading about our local sports and the issues that surround them. I want to applaud your sports editor Wayne Grandy for the great job he does in highlighting and uplifting our youth in this venue. Great job guys!

Front pages

“Why all the negative news on the front pages of The Observer lately. How can we get people to move here when you feed them home invasions and robberies consistently? Oh I get it, you are just trying to sell newspapers.

Obama

“Don't blame President Bush for these wars! He is not the President anymore. Obama is President and he said that he would stop the war and what has he done? Sent more troops over to fight and die. Why? Because that is what is keeping those people over there and away from our country again. And I don't hate Obama. I want him to succeed because if he fails then we all fail.

Codes?

“Are the new storage units on Veterans Parkway and behind Applebee's in the city limits? If they are, I thought you could not put metal buildings inside of the City Limits.

Addictions

“ Moultrie is full of drug addicted people who have to support their habits. So be very careful and secure your belongings as best as you can.

Gangs, drugs

“When will the police realize that Moultrie has a gang and drug war going on? Please don't think it is marijuana they are fighting over. What you have here is the drug cartel recruiting in Moultrie.

Mr. Jones Rocks

“Mr. Jones rocks. I went to the high school from 2002-2005 and I agree with Mr. Jones and some of the things that happened at the high school and within the football program.

I have seen and heard about teachers dating students which is not right and I don't agree with the helmets and uniforms changes either. Just because some do, don't mean everyone is behind it.

  • We better wake up

    Dear editor:
Have our GOP representatives gone to sleep or are they refusing to act for the people they are supposed to represent? The Obama administration has contracted a Spanish company called SCYTAL, to tabulate the 2012 November presidential election.

  • Dwain Walden.jpg May God bless my Uncle Henry

My uncle once noted on his return from a fishing trip that he caught so many fish he couldn’t put them all in one pile.
That’s how I feel trying to keep up with all the causes and organizations that either require support groups or else they comprise support groups.

  • A kind humanity

    Dear editor:
Humanity. One word. That word can translate into many other words. Some would say humanity is dark, greedy and bent on world domination. Others may say humanity is sweet, kind and caring. I myself witnessed a small part of a loving, caring humanity the other day.

  • Why it's a bad tax

    Dear editor:
In regards to the Transportation TSplost Tax:  The statement, “Economic development suffers if we don’t pass this tax” is not a valid statement, because Georgia has always been behind the 8 ball in regards to transportation, but yet look at the growth we have experienced; being behind in transportation didn't hinder economic growth. Georgia now ranks 11th in the country as of 2010 and this occurred mostly since 1995. The economic vitality of Georgia is alive and well considering the slump the country is in.

  • I am saddened

    Dear editor:
A couple of weeks ago, I attended Field Day at Sunset Elementary where my oldest daughter attends the Pre-K program. I was deeply saddened to hear that Mrs. Vicky Watson will be retiring this year.
