More thoughts on issue

Dear editor:

Mr. Richard Alderman, I know I didn't attack Coach Propst at all, but asked an important question about the change in the helmets and uniforms of the team. I don't think Coach Rush Propst has earned the right to change anything until he has proved he can win here in Moultrie and Colquitt County on a consistent basis, and he will be here for the long haul since there was a little ole controversy about him being interviewed for the job of South Alabama offensive coordinator job.

See, I was here when another coach, from the state of Florida came in here with his five state championships, because the football search committee was impressed with his record and how close he was to Moultrie. Well Region 1 5AAAAA changed his views about Georgia's football very fast and sad to say he didn't last long. It turned out to be a blunder and a bad bad mistake by the football search committee.

After that blunder, I’m pretty sure you would understand, I never understood why Coach Propst was hired in the first place after resigning from his head coach job for changing players' grades and having extramarital affairs in Alabama. You may not understand this since you are from Jacksonville, that this is Moultrie and Colquitt County and that morals and values, integrity, honor, dignity, and doing things the right way go farther in this neck of the woods than doing things the wrong way.

I am pretty pretty sure you would understand Coach Hughes didn't come here with all the extra baggage and I am pretty sure that you would understand the football search committee back then would never went for it in the first place.

Here is the link so you can read it for yourself: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rush_Propst.

Now, I think my attacks were on the current regime at the high school mainly the head principal and the school superintendent since we all know, Coach Propst can't do nothing without getting the ok from his bosses. If you would like to add the athletic director to that list, be my guest but I don't think he gave the go ahead when it came to the changes.

Last but not least, those bland helmets with the interlocking CC meant something to some of former players, and fans during that period and all the old timers who grew up in Moultrie and Colquitt County and followed our football program over the years. We had something going on here in Colquitt County. and we had our little own tradition here in Colquitt County. The only reason the football program was in disarray was because the football search committee made a terrible mistake by bring in Tim Cokley. At least Coach Mike Singletary was going to the playoff most years and giving us a chance to win the region.

To outsiders, maybe the helmets and uniforms were a little bland, but to citizens that grew up here it was our tradition. Some in the community may not value tradition and history, but I do. Before, I sit back and say nothing about it, I will voice my opinions as much as I like since I played for Coach Hughes and understand what we had going on here and still do mean something to more people than you may think.

Finally, when Lowndes, Valdosta, Thomasville, Tift County and Coffee County all change their helmets and uniforms, all the former players agree with the change, and coach Hughes give his okay, then I would support whatever Coach Propst does.

Remember back in the early sixties when people were digging bomb shelters in fear of the “Big One” being dropped on us? I recall how an alarm would go off at school, and we would get under our desks. What a joke! Get under our desks when one entire wall was glass!

    Dear editor:
What words can be added to so many that have been said in prayer and praise for our Haley?  We have witnessed an outpouring of love and sacrifice for our families, and we truly cannot express our feelings of humility and gratitude.

  • What's at stake here?

    Dear editor
It looks like one of my worst fears is about to happen. With President Obama’s withdrawal of all American troops from Iraq it appears the democratic government we set up in Iraq is getting ready to come apart.  The Shiites and Sunnis are at each others throats and the Kurds and Turkey are already shooting at each other. Iran seems to be paused to take up the vacuum we will be left and obtain a nuclear weapon. In 2007 the Democrats were clamoring for President Bush to get our troops out of Iraq.

Occasionally I will watch one of those food shows on cable television. I find them more curious than I do entertaining. And sometimes, with only 100 channels at my disposal, I have to settle for curious.

  • 'No' to incumbents

    Dear editor:
Joe Biden came to Cowtown (Ft. Worth) to raise funds for his boss Obama. Picked up $125,000 from some "Fat Cat" liberals, part of the millionaire's raising Obama's teleprompter fund to over $225 million.

Should candidates for county positions have to run for a party's nomination?

No. Political parties are meaningless at this level.
Yes. It helps voters know where they stand on issues.
With all the problems the state's facing, this is a non-issue.
