I offer a rebuttal

MOULTRIE — Dear editor,

With no disrespect to Mr. Harris, who skillfully threw some very witty remarks at me in the September 2nd edition of the Moultrie Observer, I have to say that his research about President Obama and accusations toward me and my piece were strongly mislead and not studied thoroughly.

First of all, Mr. Harris made accusations several times stating that I said George W. Bush was to take no blame. I never once said that President Bush was not responsible for some of our deficit, however, I did say that I didn’t want anyone emailing me blaming Bush, because Obama has made plenty of his own mistakes.

“Mr. Obama inherited a yearly deficit of roughly $1.4 trillion,” says Mr. Harris. Well, this is true, but where Mr. Harris didn’t put blame was when Mr. Obama initiated stimulus packages and bailouts, that more than tripled the national deficit. When you ask many Americans/Moultrians, they don’t know where that stimulus money went, or haven’t seen any of it for themselves, so most of the deficit now is Mr. Obama’s fault. You can’t keep blaming an administration that is no longer around!

Another piece of Mr. Harris’s letter says, “During the 2000 presidential race, Princeton’s Paul Krugman predicted Mr. Bush’s economic policies would cause federal government to move from having a substantial yearly surplus as a result of the Bill Clinton’s presidency to having at least a $1 trillion yearly deficit by the end of Mr. Bush’s two terms” So, Mr. Krugman was predicting that President Bush would be elected to two terms, before he was even president?

As far as health care reform, you stated that 60% of people who had read the bill supported it. Well, 60% of ten is only six people. Mr. Obama himself stated that it was impossible that anyone had read it before it was signed, because it was thousands of pages long. Nancy Pelosi stated, “We have to pass the bill, so that you can see what’s in it.” Face it, the government was not listening to the American people! Sixty percent of all Americans, not just ones who had read the bill, but all Americans, disapproved of the health care bill, and Obama signed it into law anyway. That my friend, is ignoring the will of the American people, and America will not stand for that!

Most of the stuff that Mr. Harris put in his letter was gibberish to lots of people. People don’t want to know what Obama is going to trick into law, they want to know what he is going to do that will raise their taxes or put more worry on them. Why elect a man who is going to make us worry more and more? Why elect a man who won’t listen to us?

Do you know what type of government we live in Mr. Harris? Contrary to popular belief, we live in a constitution based federal republic. That’s right, we do not live in a democracy, and if you don’t believe it, look it up. Do you know what a republic is? A republic is a government where the central parts of government are restricted. Therefore, the president is merely a representative of the people. So in essence, we are his boss, but he, and his tom foolery, is making everyone believe that he is the sole power, and therefore, things are being done without the bosses, our, permission. It is ludicrous, we don’t agree with it and the American people are rising up to do something about it.

I would like to take this time to thank everyone who sent me all of the wonderful emails concerning my last editorial. I really appreciate knowing that there are others standing behind me.

So Mr. Harris, I say don’t blame Bush because, well, it’s time for our president to start taking credit for his own actions and mistakes. What kind of leader is it that will just pass the buck like that? Can we trust a man that will always try to find an excuse to save his own rear end? Bush is in the past! Obama is now! Change was supposed to be now, yet we have not seen “change” in the form he promised. So, again Mr. Harris, don’t bring that same old stubborn crap to the table! Bring something relevant to the table, which is worth arguing about! American people are wanting change… and still waiting for it.
