MOULTRIE —
Dear editor:
A big ‘thank you” to everyone who participated in the 2013 United Way of Colquitt County Campaign.
United Way plays a very unique and important role in our community. To put it simply, United Way is not about one cause or issue. It is about taking a holistic viewpoint of our community. It is about understanding the gravity and interconnectedness of all the social challenges we face. And it is about empowering a community to work together to build real solutions for today, tomorrow and forever.
The fact is poverty, homelessness, family violence; low graduation and literacy rates truly affect us all. When someone in our community has no shelter or a child at any one of our local schools is going hungry, the strength of our entire community is weakened. There is no doubt, we are all connected.
When you participated in the United Way Campaign this fall, you said ‘yes’ to sharing your time, your talent and your resources in favor of the common good. . . ‘yes’ to working united as a community for the community.
We thank you for your participation in our campaign and the success you afforded us to continue to work to provide solutions for our community issues.
Marc DeMott
2013 Campaign Chair

Oh joy! The Turtle Man will return
Great news! The Turtle Man is coming back for another season on television!
And yes, I’m being a little facetious here. It’s a ridiculous show, but apparently it’s entertainment for some people. -
The kind of stuff that happens in dictatorships
Distrust of government secrecy has been elevated to an exceptional level with the disclosure the Justice Department covertly examined two months of Associated Press phone records to determine who leaked details to the AP about a foiled terrorist plot.

And would you like fries with that?
Most of us have seen the Chick-fil-A signs that urge us to “eat more chicken.” So would you ever expect to see one that says, “eat more crickets?”

Something to enjoy
Dear editor,
On Sunday I had the pleasure of witnessing an Atlanta Braves game up close and in person. I have been to a Braves game before but every time always feels like the first. - Rant and Rave for 05/15/13
