Rant and Rave for 02/08/13

MOULTRIE — I agree

“I agree Mr. Walden, the lights going out at the Super Bowl was greatly overstated. Maybe some people thought this was a government action ... you know, they would sneak in and take away your guns before the game was over."

Big deal

“No Saturday mail delivery? Big deal. All I get are 2 pounds of junk mail and bills. I finally moved my mailbox near my garbage can so I don’t have to even bring the junk mail in the house. Why not save some real money and go to Monday-Wednesday-Friday delivery? I get nothing in the mail that can’t wait another day."

Pains in the buns

“I sympathize with the excuses given for school fund raisers.  But, they are big pains in the posterior. People are bombarded by neighborhood kids, co-worker kids, relatives kids, all selling the same stuff. Stuff you don’t want or need. There is only so much you can afford. Then you feel bad to turn a child away. This doesn’t help a child’s self esteem to be shunned by those they approach to sell to. System needs to be revamped."

Drones

“I saw in the paper where they're complaining about drones killing American citizens. They ain't American citizens if they turned to terrorism. They ought to use the drones and kill them all."

Like the idea

“I like the idea of using drones. No need to get our soldiers killed when we can use a robot. But first, I think we should not get involved in so many conflicts unless there is a direct threat to our national security."

An accounting

“Again, I would like to see an accounting of what the money goes for ... the money that school kids collect for selling stuff. I’m not saying I’m opposing that practice at this time, but I would like to see the books on some of these projects. Where is the accountability?"

Great experience

“I've heard so many complaints about how badly people were treated at Colquitt Regional Medical Center but I did not find this to be the case when we were there. My 92 year-old mother-in-law was recently admitted. She and the entire family were treated with nothing but kindness and respect and received first quality care.  The staff in the ER, ICU, OR and 5th floor were attentive and caring. The doctor's were so kind. We spent the holidays there and saw several doctor. I wish I could call them all by name. All I can say is a big thank you for all you did for this family. God bless you all."

Video violence

“I’ve been researching a lot of the video games that our kids buy. So much of it is incredibly violent. It’s amazing that more kids don’t get warped with this stuff and increase the carnage on our streets and in our public places."

  • Our government meetings are indeed people’s business

In the past few days comments in the Rants and Raves column on this page have asked very pertinent questions relative to our involvement or lack thereof in the democratic-republic process.

I’ve often complained that instead of talking to a robot on the telephone, I would relish communication with a warm body.  Once I even spoke to a janitor who just happened to be passing by the ringing phone. He couldn’t help me with my issue, but it was comforting to know that not everyone in the building had been called in for an IRS audit.

  • Much appreciation

    Dear editor:
On Tuesday, May 14, many graduates were honored with awards and scholarships.
Former Colquitt County High School marketing instructor, Ron Lampman, was an additional honoree. An anonymous donor established a scholarship in Mr. Lampman’s memory.

  • Case for a flat tax

    Dear editor:
American pride and justice in our public revenue gathering service has been damaged beyond repair.

I would like to share a miracle God did in my life and in the life of my family via intercessory prayer.

  • dwain walden.tif Don’t forget about the camera crew

Sometimes I think I get way too critical of TV programming to actually enjoy a show. I know going in that even on reality shows, much of it has been staged. And on dramas, so much is predictable.
