Rant and Rave for 01/18/13

MOULTRIE — Not surprised

“I’m not surprised that someone would get on MADD’s back about drunk illegals. Instead of applause for all this organization does to call attention to the deadly issue of drunk driving, you bring in illegals. You may want to go back to the drawing board. I’m sure you can work something in here about the Second Amendment and welfare fraud."

Novel idea?

“You comment about Bibles gave me pause for thought. What if our churches canvased neighborhoods giving out Bibles? Now there’s a concept we might want to try. It would not violate the First Amendment and it might actually energize some of our churches ... you know, get them out of their comfort zone, kind of like what Christ and his disciples did."

Really?

“Yes, I’m sure that Cadillac driver was just out there running an errand for an invalid, buying her food with her EBT card. Then did you hear the one about a Catholic, a Jew and a Baptist going into a bar .....?"

Nice break

“Mr. Walden, I just read your column about the weenis. Again I ask you, what have you been smoking? Actually my wife and I enjoyed it. Such a nice break from wars and rumors of wars and crooked politicians."

Rejection factor

“To the ranter: You are absolutely right. Rejection is a fact of life. Sometimes it happens. Sometimes you come in second, not first. Sometimes you don’t even finish the race. Kids need to understand that not succeeding the way they had planned is not the end of the world. Thomas Edison once noted, “Yes I’m making progress. Already I know a hundred things that won’t work.” Regrouping is a viable function of life. We should teach that."

Attitude

“I think the deputies with the sheriff's department need to take classes on how to talk/deal with people. The deputy that came to my house was a real jerk. If you don't enjoy your job, find another. Don't take it out on the people you are supposed to help serve and protect!"

Feeling the pain

“Anyone else notice Saxby didn't say anything about congressional leaders feeling the pain? A great leader leads by example. Offer a pay cut Saxby and we may think more of you feeling sorry of the poor tax payers."

Not mentioned

“That's strange! In reading the article about Chambliss being in town, the illegal immigrant problem apparently was not even brought up. Wonder why? One only has to read the MO to know it's a huge problem in Colquitt Co., so why ignore the 800 lb. gorilla in the room?"

Bibles

“Do you really expect churches to get out in neighborhoods and hand out Bibles?"

  • Great performance

    Dear Editor,
You don't have to live in New York, Paris or London to experience world-class cultural events. You can do that right here in Moultrie, Georgia.

  • Tribute to my dad

    Dear editor:
Growing up in South Georgia every little girl thinks of their daddy as their prince; I am no different. And I believe his years of sacrifice, dedication and unconditional love for me is a story worth telling.

  • dwain walden.tif Oh joy! The Turtle Man will return

Great news! The Turtle Man is coming back for another season on television!
And yes, I’m being a little facetious here. It’s a ridiculous show, but apparently it’s entertainment for some people.

  • The kind of stuff that happens in dictatorships

Distrust of government secrecy has been elevated to an exceptional level with the disclosure the Justice Department covertly examined two months of Associated Press phone records to determine who leaked details to the AP about a foiled terrorist plot.

  • dwain walden.tif And would you like fries with that?

Most of us have seen the Chick-fil-A signs that urge us to “eat more chicken.” So would you ever expect to see one that says, “eat more crickets?”

  • Something to enjoy

    Dear editor,
On Sunday I had the pleasure of witnessing an Atlanta Braves game up close and in person.  I have been to a Braves game before but every time always feels like the first.
