Rants and Raves for Feb 9

In response

“Mr.Walden, I see your chief critic is at it again. I would like to point out a very glaring observation. He or she hides behind his words. You don’t. By the way, I’m a Baptist as well and I agree that we are probably the best counters, or at least the most prolific ones, in the world.

We're fortunate

“Coach Probst is to be really congratulated. Not only for dramatic turnaround for our football program, but also for putting in the time and effort in getting his players scholarships to play at the next level. I know a lot of these scholarships would not have been offered without your work. The players are going to have to prove themselves at college, but you have opened a door for them.We are fortunate and thankful to have you as our coach.

Public meetings

“I have attended several meeting for the county and it was evident that the discussion on projects had already occurred at another time or another place. Is there a specific date when a person can listen to the actual deliberations? But, I do agree with ranter, let "WE THE PEOPLE" start attending these meetings.

Mosquitoes

“There are those of us in Pine Valley who suffer mosquitoes constantly. Requests have been made for spraying and yet nothing is being done.

Awesome!

“I went to Heritage Church tonight to see the childrens choir from Africa.Wow!!! They were unbelievable! It was so nice to see a church that truly cares about others from all walks of life! It is not often that you see such a diverse group of people in a worship service together and it was awesome!

Double dipping

“I have to wonder why no one responsed to the post that mentioned the fact that retired teachers are now back in our schools teaching full time, drawing a full retirement and then being paid exorbitant, full salaries while we have new teachers who can't find jobs; not to mention the fact that teachers have been furloughed 6 days this year because of budget shortfalls. What is wrong with this picture? The board could hire two teachers for the cost of one of these retired teachers!

A good person

“The school bus has to turn around at my house. The other morning it was raining and the bus driver ran over my mail box. When I came home from work that same afternoon, I had a new mailbox put up ,the old one hauled away and better numbers than I had before. Now you are a good person.

    Dear editor:
Wildlife rehabilitators, or rehabbers as they are known in the animal community, are very special people. They have acquired the knowledge and experience that is needed to work with injured and orphaned wildlife. Licensed by the Georgia Department of Natural Resources, and if caring for federally protected species, the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service, a wildlife rehabilitator’s ultimate goal is to take an injured or orphaned animal, get it healthy and return it to its natural habitat.

  • Dwain Walden.jpg The sky is falling! The sky is falling!

Remember back in the early sixties when people were digging bomb shelters in fear of the “Big One” being dropped on us? I recall how an alarm would go off at school, and we would get under our desks. What a joke! Get under our desks when one entire wall was glass!

  • Outpouring of love

    Dear editor:
What words can be added to so many that have been said in prayer and praise for our Haley?  We have witnessed an outpouring of love and sacrifice for our families, and we truly cannot express our feelings of humility and gratitude.

  • Were we really shocked by the half-time cheap shot?

There’s an old saying, “Go to bed with dogs, wake up with fleas.”

    Dear editor:
When the Declaration of Independence was signed, we as a Country, The United States of America, were declaring our Freedom and Liberty.

  • What's at stake here?

    Dear editor
It looks like one of my worst fears is about to happen. With President Obama’s withdrawal of all American troops from Iraq it appears the democratic government we set up in Iraq is getting ready to come apart.  The Shiites and Sunnis are at each others throats and the Kurds and Turkey are already shooting at each other. Iran seems to be paused to take up the vacuum we will be left and obtain a nuclear weapon. In 2007 the Democrats were clamoring for President Bush to get our troops out of Iraq.

Poll

Should candidates for county positions have to run for a party's nomination?

No. Political parties are meaningless at this level.
Yes. It helps voters know where they stand on issues.
With all the problems the state's facing, this is a non-issue.
