Rant and Rave for 1/16/13

— — — —

Still illegal

“I am neither atheist, agnostic nor ‘angry’ with God. It is sad that other ranters on here talk of the love in the Bible however fail to realize the similarities between all religious text mentioned.

You can have your Hell, fire and brimstone, with a side of love, but do us all a favor and keep it out of school. Yes, I understand that the children could refuse the book on most occasions. However in this case a Gideon entered the classroom during hours of instruction, placed them on each child's desk and told the children to ‘always keep a Bible with them.’ My primary point folks... this is illegal!"

Forgiveness?

“To the person claiming that the Bible teaches love and forgiveness, I suggest you read Deuteronomy 17:2-5. I'll paraphrase: If anyone serves another god, stone them to death. And don't give me that tired old line about it being the Old Testament. It's your Bible, and you don't get to thump it and then pick and choose the parts you like."

Contradictions

“To the person/persons who are bent out of shape about the Bible being handed out at school, first, let me ensure that the ‘school’ isn't the one handing them out. Might want to check into that further before you start spreading that one around. Second, to not believe is your own prerogative, but let your children decide for themselves what to believe...... and I bet you also celebrated Christmas, bought gifts, did the whole Santa thing..... guess what? Christmas is a religious holiday! Talk about your contradictions! Hmmmmm....."

2nd Amendment

“2nd Amendment disciples want to blame everything: mental health, violent movies and video games, lack of religion. They never want to talk about what actually does the shooting. I guess America is the only country with crazy people, bloody games and cinema, and different religions."

In response

“Atheist ranter: If you have a problem with New Testament Bibles handed out in the schools, here is a suggestion. Find and print a religious text of your choosing and amass a group of people to pass them out.

I am sure you can assemble enough atheists in Colquitt County to help with no problem."

Was wondering

“I was just wondering. Do our churches hand out Bibles in the community? Do our civic clubs hand them out? How about other groups that non-government affiliated? I was just wondering because I know these other groups don’t teach match, science and languages."

Electoral College

“Mr. Walden, I really do wish that the Electoral College did have a football team. That would make more sense than what it does now. Enjoyed that column, and many others you write. Keep it up.

Should the Boy Scouts accept gay members and/or leaders?

No. Homosexuality goes against Scouting's moral foundation.
Allowing youth members is OK, but not leaders.
