Rant and Rave for 01/02/13

The Moultrie Observer

MOULTRIE — Violent culture

“I, too, own guns. I’m an avid outdoorsman. But I have no need for an assault-type rifle. I don’t know if outlawing those types of guns would do any good, given that a shotgun can create much havoc. I do think we need to be more cautious about who has guns. Still I know we can’t absolutely protect ourselves from a madman who intends to inflict damage. It can be done in many forms as terrorists throughout the world have illustrated."

In response

“In response to the ranter who said if everyone took care of their animals we would need a Humane Society: If everyone observed the golden rule, we wouldn’t need a police department either."

Armed guards

“I disagree about armed guards in our schools doing no good. Hasn't it helped on our commercial airlines? Even the students wouldn't know the whereabouts of this person all the time so any proposed shooter would be taking a chance. If only assault guns are banned you would still be able to buy one on the black market so I say again, gun control is not the answer."

Curious

“Just curious,  who is going to pay the refiling cost on those State Court cases dismissed?  Also, what does ‘the cases will be refiled if the cases warrant it’ actually mean?  Does that mean they shouldn't have been filed in the first place?  I think the solicitor should be charged for the additional cost, not the taxpayer!"

Students

“When you say 'some students just can't learn,' do you really mean 'I've given up on finding a way to get some students interested?'"

The warning

“I guess my entry in rant and raves about the purses in cars didn't reach some unfortunate people. Wake the heck up people! While your praising the Lord in church the devil is outside stealing your things. I hope this reaches you and you heed the warning."

School board

“We will get three new school board members in January. We desperately need a clean slate of school board members with recent actions such as 3-year contracts for certain administrators and central office personnel, special treatment for the previous superintendent’s exit, hiring and dismissal practices, etc. Do outstanding teachers receive 3-year contracts. No! It would literally surprise you of other board actions."

Safety issue

“My children attend Norman Park school and with what happened in Newtown, CT, I feel that my children aren't as safe as they should be. Norman Park has the whole back side of the school where the gym is opened and anyone can go into the gym as well as jump a fence and pick a classroom. It has been this way since I went to school."
