MOULTRIE — Volunteers

“I must have missed something. What’s all the hullabaloo about our volunteer firemen. These guys do a great job for no pay. I remember when we did not have this kind of fire protection. I also note that our insurance rates have improved with the development of these departments. All I can say about them is that they do a great job and I'm proud to have them."

Changes

“Mr. Walden, I like the point you made about when we carried knives to school and they were considered tools and not  weapons. Yes, times have changed. Some good and some bad."

Thefts

“I would have thought by now that all the good stuff had been stolen in our county. By my calculations, thefts here come to around a million or more dollars each year."

Beware

“Young people getting killed and young people getting arrested. Take heed young people, this is not a movie you are in. You won’t be coming back for a sequel."

Football tickets

“The increase in the price of reserved seats has absolutely nothing to do with the new turf project. None of the proceeds from ticket sales will go to the Touchdown Club and the project is being completely funded by the Club. Call the school system and verify this if you must. Do a little research before making assumptions."

Wonder why

“President Obama and Attorney General Holder both promised to close Guantanamo Bay and to try those poor prisoners in American courtrooms as soon as possible. Apparently those plans are on hold until after the November elections. Why? Unfortunately doing the right thing is not always popular with the voters. We really need to move forward now not later."

Kids at buffet

“I love kids, especially well mannered ones. My pet peeve at restaurants is having a child serving himself at a buffet without any adult supervision!! I have seen a child drop food, pick it up and put it back. And they are "under the radar" when they cough or sneeze. I have often turned to the menu instead of the buffet for this reason."

Corruption

“If you go back and do some research on chain gangs you will be find all sorts of corruption involved, especially where they were connected to private properties. There was a time when the county warden was the most cherished of public offices. Wonder why?

  • Dwain Walden.jpg Life is a matter of perspectives; think about it

My friend, a city boy, was yelling for help. We were fishing on a river, and he had ventured over to another spot.
“Someone help! I’m cornered!” he yelled.

  • We better wake up

    Dear editor:
Have our GOP representatives gone to sleep or are they refusing to act for the people they are supposed to represent? The Obama administration has contracted a Spanish company called SCYTAL, to tabulate the 2012 November presidential election.

  • Dwain Walden.jpg May God bless my Uncle Henry

My uncle once noted on his return from a fishing trip that he caught so many fish he couldn’t put them all in one pile.
That’s how I feel trying to keep up with all the causes and organizations that either require support groups or else they comprise support groups.

  • A kind humanity

    Dear editor:
Humanity. One word. That word can translate into many other words. Some would say humanity is dark, greedy and bent on world domination. Others may say humanity is sweet, kind and caring. I myself witnessed a small part of a loving, caring humanity the other day.

  • Why it's a bad tax

    Dear editor:
In regards to the Transportation TSplost Tax:  The statement, “Economic development suffers if we don’t pass this tax” is not a valid statement, because Georgia has always been behind the 8 ball in regards to transportation, but yet look at the growth we have experienced; being behind in transportation didn't hinder economic growth. Georgia now ranks 11th in the country as of 2010 and this occurred mostly since 1995. The economic vitality of Georgia is alive and well considering the slump the country is in.
