Dear editor:
In fairness to your column on Bigfoot, I offer you the following:
It seems to be a general misconception that the Bigfoot phenomena across the country is nothing but a hoax, or just storytelling.
As a Bigfoot researcher and investigator of the last nine years, I have come to conclude there is something definitely to the phenomena. I entered this advocation as a skeptic, and as a professional investigator of 17 years, I rarely put my guard down when investigating things of this nature.
The sad fact is the population of the public has been misinformed about many things to this mystery, primarily through the media rushing to get a story out and failing to collect the facts. They seem more interested in getting a laugh rather than their facts straight.
Last year ABC news had reported that the now infamous Patterson film of 1967, was an admitted hoax when his family came forward shortly after his death. They had grossly mixed up another story concerning Ray Wallace, as Patterson went to his death bed in 1972, claiming the film was authentic. And the man verified with him that fateful day in 1967 Bob Gimlin still states to this day the film is authentic. Despite nobody is saying they wore a suit in the film, no evidence is available to prove the film was hoaxed either. And Ray Wallace, no one could ever prove he faked a track. His family only surmised it.
The fact is there are over 14 hair in the world that have defied classification, other than some sort of unknown primate, and some found right here in the United States. There is dermal ridge evidence, discovered in some of the castings. There are over 1000 sightings (and I am not talking of YouTube videos either) of the creature reported each year in 49 of the 50 states (Hawaii the exception). Even if one percent of these sightings were not a hoax or misidentification of another animal, that still leaves 10 cases which deny explanation.
I have personally interviewed two police officers who have had a close encounter with the creature. I've also spoken with professionals, scientists, and blue collar folks, whom obviously have had an encounter with something out of the ordinary. I've seen people who do not believe become believers. This is not just mere folklore but a phenomena which has been noted since the exploration of the continent, beginning with Samuel DeChamplain and the Micmac Indians warning him of "Gougo" which meant "Hairy Man Beast".
It is naive to think our government would arbitrarily use the full resources of the government expending hundreds of thousands of dollars to locate a creature, which will have no monetary benefit to the running of the government in a time of war, and especially when you have several hundred advocational researchers and a couple of dozen scientists doing it for them on their own dime.
It is also so sad how we learn about Columbus, arguing the world was not flat, Copernicus, how the Earth was not the center of the Universe, and say how could people be so nasty to them when we see the same towards the researchers investigating this mystery with the mainstream media.
I cannot speak for the particular researcher you have mentioned or for all researchers, but there are many in it for the nobility, not the monetary.

We better wake up
Dear editor:
Have our GOP representatives gone to sleep or are they refusing to act for the people they are supposed to represent? The Obama administration has contracted a Spanish company called SCYTAL, to tabulate the 2012 November presidential election. - Rant and Rave for 5/26/12

May God bless my Uncle Henry
My uncle once noted on his return from a fishing trip that he caught so many fish he couldn’t put them all in one pile.
That’s how I feel trying to keep up with all the causes and organizations that either require support groups or else they comprise support groups. -
A kind humanity
Dear editor:
Humanity. One word. That word can translate into many other words. Some would say humanity is dark, greedy and bent on world domination. Others may say humanity is sweet, kind and caring. I myself witnessed a small part of a loving, caring humanity the other day. - Rant and Rave for 5/24/12

Why it's a bad tax
Dear editor:
In regards to the Transportation TSplost Tax: The statement, “Economic development suffers if we don’t pass this tax” is not a valid statement, because Georgia has always been behind the 8 ball in regards to transportation, but yet look at the growth we have experienced; being behind in transportation didn't hinder economic growth. Georgia now ranks 11th in the country as of 2010 and this occurred mostly since 1995. The economic vitality of Georgia is alive and well considering the slump the country is in. - Rant and Rave for 5/23/12

I am saddened
Dear editor:
A couple of weeks ago, I attended Field Day at Sunset Elementary where my oldest daughter attends the Pre-K program. I was deeply saddened to hear that Mrs. Vicky Watson will be retiring this year. - More Opinion Headlines
