Rants and Raves for July 1

Both parties

“Mr. Psalmond, I read your letter to the editor. And I particularly noted that this time you blame the Republicans and the Democrats for many of our problems. And yes, there’s enough blame to spread across both parties.

Barbaric nations

“I read about the Somali incidents where the young thieves had their hands and feet hacked off out in the streets. My first thought was not about how such action is a deterrent to crime but rather that we send troops into barbaric countries like this and sacrifice our young soldiers. What a shame!

Check around

“Health care professionals are some of the highest paid people in the community. Before you complain about not getting raises, you might want to check around with some other folks who don’t even have jobs anymore.

Bicycles

“You’re right, bicycles are supposed to go with the flow of traffic. And unless I’ve misunderstood the issue, they also are not supposed to travel on the sidewalks.

Crime

“Another armed robbery. This is getting to be a routine in Moultrie. And look at all the thefts over the weekend. And our crime rate is supposed to be down? It doesn’t seem that way to me.

Filiming

“Forget filming people who leave shopping carts in parking space, how about all the police eating at the same place at the same time. Maybe the crocks know where they are, so they can steal the citizens of Moultrie blind. Yea, Yea, they have to eat. I eat breakfast before I leave home.

Jackson

“Michael Jackson has more coverage because he is known around the world. He was great in the world of entertainment. The other one was only known on from a television show. Michael has been a great star until his mind begin to fail him. Plus his childhood caused a lot of mental stress that brought him down from stardom. Get over it and worry about something that is important or don't watch the coverage.

No minority

“ C.A. Gray will have three assistant principals and not one of those are a minority. With the make up of the school, there should be someone other than the Principal be a minority. Wake up, I am sure there are qualified minorities in and out of the Colquitt County School System.

Question

“Did you complain about the coverage when it was Elvis who died?

  • We better wake up

    Dear editor:
Have our GOP representatives gone to sleep or are they refusing to act for the people they are supposed to represent? The Obama administration has contracted a Spanish company called SCYTAL, to tabulate the 2012 November presidential election.

My uncle once noted on his return from a fishing trip that he caught so many fish he couldn’t put them all in one pile.
That’s how I feel trying to keep up with all the causes and organizations that either require support groups or else they comprise support groups.

  • A kind humanity

    Dear editor:
Humanity. One word. That word can translate into many other words. Some would say humanity is dark, greedy and bent on world domination. Others may say humanity is sweet, kind and caring. I myself witnessed a small part of a loving, caring humanity the other day.

  • Why it's a bad tax

    Dear editor:
In regards to the Transportation TSplost Tax:  The statement, “Economic development suffers if we don’t pass this tax” is not a valid statement, because Georgia has always been behind the 8 ball in regards to transportation, but yet look at the growth we have experienced; being behind in transportation didn't hinder economic growth. Georgia now ranks 11th in the country as of 2010 and this occurred mostly since 1995. The economic vitality of Georgia is alive and well considering the slump the country is in.

  • I am saddened

    Dear editor:
A couple of weeks ago, I attended Field Day at Sunset Elementary where my oldest daughter attends the Pre-K program. I was deeply saddened to hear that Mrs. Vicky Watson will be retiring this year.

Poll

If the vote were held today, would you support the Transportation Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax?

Yes. We need these projects, and this is the only way we can pay for them.
No. We don't need any more taxes.
No. The process is undemocratic and wrong.
