Ruth Lisk Hattaway

RALEIGH, N.C. — Ruth Lisk Hattaway, 87, of Raleigh, N.C., formerly of Greensboro, N.C., died Tuesday, Sept. 11, 2007, after a period of declining health.

A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Sept. 14, at Green Hill Cemetery, 901 Wharton St., Greensboro, N.C. 27401.

She was born Feb. 10, 1920, in Charlotte, N.C., the daughter of Richard Earle Lisk and Irene Brown Lisk Black. She lived most of her life in Greensboro, attending Greensboro City Schools and UNC Greensboro. She moved with her husband to Whitaker Glen in Raleigh in 2003 and recently was a resident of Sunrise Assisted Living at North Hills. She was a dedicated homemaker and loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.

She is survived by her husband of 69 years, Alexander C. Hattaway Jr.; sons, Alexander C. Hattaway III and his wife Anna of Raleigh, N.C., and Richard E. Hattaway of Kernersville, N.C.; daughter, Linda H. Lofton of Moultrie; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to Hospice of Wake County, 1300 St. Mary’s Street, 4th Floor, Raleigh, N.C. 27605.

William Smith Jr.

MOULTRIE — William Smith Jr., 59, of Moultrie died Saturday, Sept. 8, 2007, at Archbold Memorial Hospital.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 15, at Friendship Baptist Church with the Rev. Alfred Jones officiating. Burial will follow in Strong Memorial Gardens with Wayne Anderson, Thaddeus Hewitt, Robert Williams, Dexter McClendon and Kenneth Harris serving as pallbearers.

Born June 28, 1948, in Ocilla, Ga., he was the son of Elizabeth King Smith of Moultrie and the late William Lee Smith Sr. He was employed in masonry.

Survivors also include a son, Robert Williams of Albany, Ga.; a brother, Darrell Smith of Moultrie; sisters, Velma Snelling and husband Gary, Annette Hadley and husband Lonnie Sr. and Ellenor Anderson and husband Eddie Sr., all of Moultrie; and three grandchildren.

Visitation will be at the home of Eddie and Ellenor Anderson, 603 Third St. S.E. in Moultrie.

A wake will be held Friday, Sept. 14, from 7 to 8 p.m. at Strong Funeral Home.

Strong Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.



Linda Jewell Glass Yawn Rosier

BERLIN — Linda Jewell Glass Yawn Rosier, 62, of Berlin died Tuesday, Sept. 11, 2007, at Colquitt Regional Medical Center.

Arrangements will be announced by Cobb Funeral Chapel.



Levon “Georgia Boy” Brooks

MOULTRIE — Levon “Georgia Boy” Brooks, 58, of Moultrie died Tuesday, Sept. 11, 2007, at Colquitt Regional Medical Center.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 15, at Luke Strong and Son Mortuary Chapel with the Rev. J.W. Greene Jr. officiating. Burial will follow in the St. James Pallbearers Cemetery No. 2 with Lawrence Woods, William Daniels Jr., William Daniels III, Jaris Henry, Bernard Reynolds and Chris Simons serving as pallbearers.

He was born on Dec. 3, 1948, in Newnan, Ga., to the late Claude Sims and the late Charlene Brooks Sims.

He was also preceded in death by a sister, Evangeline Sims; and his mother-in-law, Martha Reynolds.

He is survived by his wife, Jackie McClinton of Moultrie; four brothers, Gregory Sims, Nathaniel Sims, Julius Sims and Julian Sims, all of Newnan, Ga.; four sisters, Marilyn Sims, and husband Joseph, Carolyn Sims Dukes, Lillie Hart and husband Michael J. and Claudia Watkins and husband Tonderick Watkins, all of Newnan; a sister-in-law, Knieka McClinton of Warner Robins, Ga.; a brother-in-law, Larry Carr of Warner Robins; a father-in-law, Calvin McClinton; and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

The family will receive family and friends at 424 Third Ave. N.W.

Luke Strong and Son Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.
