Barbara Grogan of Americus will be presented with the 2012 Outstanding Young Alumnus Award during the annual ABAC Alumni Association awards ceremony on Celebrate ABAC weekend on March 3 at Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College. Grogan is a Colquitt County native, originally from Norman Park.
Advance tickets to the 11 a.m. brunch awards ceremony on March 3 at the Georgia Museum of Agriculture Conference Room on the ABAC campus must be ordered by Feb. 17. The tickets are $25 per person. Tickets requested after Feb. 17 will be $35 per person. Please note there will be no tickets sold at the door.
The awards ceremony will recognize ABAC alumni who impacted the college and their communities in significant ways. ABAC will also honor several current Colquitt Countians at the March 3 event: Nancy Gurley Jenkins will receive the Helen Brown Sasser award; Von G. Peavy will receive the J. Lamar Branch award; and the Johnie Clark family will be presented with the 2012 Family Legacy Award. Click here for more about those awards.

The Outstanding Young Alumnus Award recognizes young alumni, 35 and younger, who have distinguished themselves through professional achievement, community service and service to the college. The Outstanding Young Alumnus Award was initiated in 1981 by a group of former publications editors and staffers in honor of Helen Strickland.
Grogan received her associate degree in family and consumer sciences from ABAC in 1998. While at ABAC, she served as an ABAC Ambassador and held the offices of vice-president and president of the Family and Consumer Sciences Club. Other organizations that Grogan participated in included FFA, the Baptist Student Union, and the Student Activities Budget Committee. She received the prestigious Donaldson Award at the ABAC commencement ceremony in 1998.
She went on to attain two bachelor’s degrees from the University of Georgia (UGA) as a double major in consumer economics and housing in 2000 and earned her Master of Public Administration degree, specializing in public policy and personnel management, in 2002 from UGA.
Since January of 2009, Grogan has been employed as Archway professional with the University of Georgia Archway Partnership. She also currently serves as vice president of membership for the Georgia Association of Family and Consumer Sciences. She has previously worked for Senators Saxby Chambliss and Paul Broun, and Congressmen Max Burns, Bob Inglis, and John Linder.
Grogan is a member of the ABAC Ag Alumni Council and the ABAC ACTIONS (Alumni Connecting To Involved and Outstanding New Students) group, as well as a thoughtful contributor to the college’s Rural Studies program.
