MOULTRIE —
A Thomasville man faces multiple charges after he allegedly stole a car and hit two separate objects early Saturday morning.
Anthony Bernard Wingfield, 31, of 1525 Summer Hill Road in Thomasville, was charged with striking a fixed object, burglary, theft by taking a motor vehicle, leaving the scene of an accident, DUI, failure to maintain lane, driving without a license (second offense) and probation violation.
A Moultrie police officer was flagged down by Bobby Arnold while the officer was on patrol on Second Street Northwest at 3:31 a.m. Saturday. Arnold stated a red car hit his mailbox and left the scene, causing about $100 in damage, police reports said.
While searching for the car, the officer learned the car allegedly had been stolen from a house on Second Street Northwest. Jaime Huff reported his red Pontiac Sunfire was stolen from his house between 3 p.m. Friday and 3:50 a.m. Saturday. Also, Kurt James reported a red car hit his Honda Accord while it was parked at Moates Grocery on Fourth Street Northwest.
A red Sunfire was spotted as the officer returned to Arnold’s house from searching for it. Arnold identified this vehicle as the one that hit his mailbox, and the officer pulled the car over and spoke with the driver, identified as Wingfield, the reports stated.
Wingfield was found to allegedly be intoxicated, and he was placed under arrest. Before being taken to the jail, Huff stated the keys Wingfield allegedly had were locked inside Huff’s house. Wingfield also allegedly had Huff’s dog in his possession at the time of the traffic stop, the reports said.
