Worker dies in farm accident

NORMAN PARK — A field worker was killed Monday morning when he was struck by a trailer, Colquitt County Coroner Verlyn Brock said.

Martin Fernandez Herrera, no age or address available, was working in a field where greens were being harvesting at the time. The accident occurred at about 9 a.m. in a field at the intersection of Billy Vickers Road and Cool Springs Road.

“It appeared the truck towing the trailers with the equipment was moving on around to the back field and (Herrera) attempted to get a ride on the trailer while it was moving,” Brock said. “Apparently he lost his grip or fell down (and) the back trailer ran over him.”

The Georgia State Patrol investigated the accident. No reports were available from the agency Monday.
