3 teens arrested for being on roofs

MOULTRIE — Three teenagers were apprehended after they were spotted on the rooftop of a downtown Moultrie building early Saturday morning. In recent months, there have several reports of youngsters being on downtown roofs.

Alex James Holloway, 19, and Damien Allan Holloway, 18, both of 1570 Highway 270 in Doerun, were each charged with vagrancy. A 16-year-old boy was charged with criminal trespassing and furnishing false information to an officer.

A Moultrie police officer spotted three people on a rooftop behind Cheese and Feed on Second Avenue Southeast at 4:33 a.m. Saturday. Additional officers arrived at the scene, and the three individuals were ordered to come down off the rooftop, which they did.

All three were identified and placed under arrest, and they stated they resorted to sleeping on rooftops after they were kicked out of their house. All three were taken to Colquitt County Jail, but the 16-year-old boy was found to have allegedly given an incorrect birth date. He was booked on the charges against him and released to a guardian.

There have been several reports of youngsters being on rooftops downtown. Dwain Walden, publisher of The Moultrie Observer, said there have been numerous instances of boys being on top of The Observer and adjacent buildings at night. He said on several occasions, staff members have run them off the roof and have called police.
