MOULTRIE — A Moultrie man was charged Tuesday in connection with the March 4 theft of car batteries from a repair shop.

Jimmy Jerome Lewis, 47, of 1311 First Ave. N.W., was charged with burglary.

A Moultrie police investigator was called to a burglary at Jackson Transmission on West Central Avenue at 6:57 p.m. March 4. The investigator spoke with an employee, who stated seeing someone in a fenced-in area after the shop was closed.

The person had taken a battery from a Ford Ranger truck, the employee said, and he appeared to be trying to lower a vehicle on a lift. Before the person was able to get to the vehicle, the employee confronted him and he fled from the scene.

The value of the batteries was $20, and they were returned to the shop.

Lewis was charged with the burglary Tuesday after he was previously charged Sunday with entering an automobile.
