MOULTRIE —
As a stream of violence and robberies continues to flow in Colquitt County, a Moultrie man reported he was robbed at gunpoint and was shot at early Thursday morning.
Moultrie Police Investigator Cpl. Dave Underwood said a Moultrie police officer was called to a house on First Avenue Northwest at 12:33 a.m. Thursday. The officer spoke with Kenny Lawton, who stated he was approached by an unknown person at the house.
Lawton stated the man pulled out a revolver and demanded money from him, Underwood said. Lawton gave the robber his cash, but the robber also demanded Lawton’s wallet, which was also stolen. The value of the items reported stolen was $245.
Following the robbery, Underwood said the robber ran to Fifth Street Northwest and Lawton stated he chased after him. As they reached the Fifth Street Northwest and Second Avenue Northwest intersection, the robber stopped, turned around and fired three to five gunshots at Lawton. None of the gunshots hit Lawton, who was not injured in the robbery, police reports said.
Underwood said anyone with information about the robbery is asked to call the Moultrie Police Department at 985-3131 or the anonymous tip line at 890-5451.
