BERLIN —
Berlin Baptist Church will be celebrating its 100th Anniversary on Saturday, Sept. 11, and Sunday, Sept. 12.
Starting on Saturday will be a bus tour to previous church and baptismal sites at 10 a.m. Then, upon returning, an anniversary tree will be planted and the cornerstone will be opened. At noon, there will be a box lunch provided in the social hall and participants can view exhibits and have fellowship. At 2 p.m., there will be a special program to recognize former pastors, members, families and friends.
On Sunday, from 9:30 to 10 a.m., will be Sunday school registration, then there will be a break for fellowship. There will be a celebration service from 10 a.m. to 10:15 a.m. Then starting at 10:30 a.m., the Rev. Brian Blackburn, director of Norman Baptist Assembly, will be the guest preacher. Services will conclude outside with a cornerstone picture and closing. A covered dish dinner will follow the service.
Some members of Hempstead Baptist Church, which was about two miles southeast of Berlin, helped organize Berlin Baptist Church. The Methodists shared their building with them and services were also held under a brush arbor. The church was built and constituted during the latter part of 1910 in the growing town of Berlin.
