Thomasville man charged with racing

MOULTRIE — A Thomasville man was apprehended after he allegedly was seen racing another vehicle Thursday night.

Matthew Lenord Chaney, 25, of 439 Beulah Church Road in Thomasville, was charged with racing.

A Moultrie police officer on patrol saw an Acura Integra and a Ford Mustang driving side by side at a high rate of speed on First Avenue Southeast at 8:36 p.m. Thursday. After seeing each vehicle trying to get by the other and hearing the engines at or near full throttle, the officer determined they were racing and got behind them to pull them over, police reports stated.

The officer turned on his patrol car’s blue lights and got behind the cars, seeing both of them slow down and turn in different directions onto Veterans Parkway. The officer followed the Integra and radioed the Mustang’s location on Veterans Parkway, but other officers were unable to find it.

The Integra pulled into the parking lot of Kentucky Fried Chicken and the driver, identified as Chaney, met the officer outside the car. Chaney was then placed under arrest, and he allegedly stated he could not have been driving faster than 50 mph when the officer first attempted to pull him over. He was then taken to Colquitt County Jail.
