MOULTRIE —
The Colquitt County Sheriff’s Office had a woman in custody in connection with a Monday morning “bomb scare” in which a caller threatened to place explosives in three public buildings.
Formal charges against the woman will be filed today, sheriff’s Inv. Mike Murfin said Monday afternoon.
“We got a call at about 9:40 that came into the 911 center that needed immediate attention,” he said.
Moultrie Fire Department and Colquitt County School System reports said that a call was placed to the 911 center shortly before 9:40 a.m.
The caller said that she would place bombs in the courthouse and two schools if an acquaintance was not released from the court, fire reports said. Firefighters were dispatched in a “non-emergency truck” to notify court officials of the call.
Assistant Schools Superintendent Mickey Key said that the incident did not rise to the level of a bomb threat.
“There was no bomb threat,” he said. “We were notified by law enforcement that someone wanted an inmate released.”
The caller reportedly told 911 that “if they don’t let somebody go, we’re going to blow up two schools.”
As a precaution, all school facilities were examined by officials, Key said.
“We followed what law enforcement told us to do,” he said. “A safety walk-through was done at every school. That was done by administrators and law enforcement. Officers were sent to every school.”
Murfin said additional information will be released today after charges are filed in the incident that he termed a bomb scare rather than a bomb threat. Additional arrests are a possibility in the case.

How will 'Obamacare' affect Moultrians?
With Georgia electing not to participate in Medicaid expansion, Colquitt Regional Medical Center and other hospitals in the area likely will rack up more expenses related to treating the uninsured.
