The Moultrie Observer picked up two awards from the Georgia Associated Press Association at its annual banquet last weekend.
Newsroom Manager Kevin C. Hall received a first place award in the Feature Writing category for his profile of Emery Suber, who at the time was 100 years old and believed to be the oldest living veteran in Colquitt County. He has since turned 101.
The profile ran as one of The Observer’s weekly Friends and Neighbors stories.
Reporter Alan Mauldin received a third-place award in the Non-Deadline Reporting category for his front-page story on the Cecilville Flea Market. The flea market on Old Doerun Road had become an eyesore, but county officials said it predated new zoning laws so they couldn’t force the owner to clean it up.
