MOULTRIE — Williams Tabernacle Christian Methodist Episcopal Church will host its 59th Annual Mammoth Tea Celebration on Sunday, Nov. 22, at 5 p.m.
The Mammoth Tea was originated 50 years ago during the pastoral leadership of the late Rev. M.C. Pettigrew. It continues to be the major fundraising event for the church and seems to promote cultural and religious prosperity in the church throughout the community. The theme for the 59th Mammoth Tea is “One in Christ Through Faith.”
The speaker for the occasion is the Rev. Sherrod Davis, who is a native of Moultrie. He is the son of Udella Spicer and the late Willie C. Davis.
He is an honor graduate of Tallahassee Community College and the Pat Thomas Law Enforcement Academy. He earned his Associate of Science Degree in criminal justice technology and juvenile detention and his correctional officer certification.
He is married to the former Torie Johnson of Orlando, Fla. and the father of Shekinah and Rebekah Davis.
He is an active minister in his church, where he serves in the Sunday school, youth department and worship services. He received his early spiritual training in Moultrie, during his youth, at Union Missionary Baptist Church. He was recently licensed to preach the gospel under the Rev. R.O. Calhoun, pastor of Union Missionary Baptist Church.
In addition to the Rev. Davis, the program will feature the combined choirs of Williams Tabernacle and Union Missionary Baptist Church, the crowning of the king and queen of the Mammoth Tea, and the unveiling of honored members of the church to be displayed on the Williams Tabernacle Wall of Honor.
The church is located at 314 3rd St., N.W. Refreshments will be served following the program in the Thomas Lee Fellowship Hall.
