MOULTRIE — A birthday party turned violent Friday night, and four people were charged after Moultrie police and Colquitt County deputies responded to the fight.
Jerome Osby, 32, of 410 Sain St. in Doerun and Alice Burton, 30, of 689 Snow Hill Church Road in Glenwood were each charged with disorderly conduct. Fletcher Moore, 53, of 607 Hillcrest Ave., was charged with disorderly house. Osby, Burton and Moore were then released on subpoena, but Ruby Burton, 32, of 403 Martin Luther King Jr. Drive, was charged with probation violation and taken to Colquitt County Jail.
Moultrie Police Department Patrol Division Commander Anthony Ferguson said officers and deputies responded to a house on Hillcrest Avenue about 11:15 p.m. Friday about a fight. Two families had gathered at the house for a birthday party, but things changed when someone was asked to leave but allegedly refused.
Moultrie Police Sgt. Terry Gibson said Osby and Alice Burton allegedly began arguing, and Moore, the home owner, allegedly became involved. During the argument, furniture was allegedly thrown and the seven or eight people inside the house allegedly got into a fight. There were no reports of injuries, and damage to the house was not known as of Saturday afternoon.
“It just got out of hand,” Ferguson said. One or two suspects in the incident fled from the house before officers arrived, he said.

CORRECTION: DUI charge
In a Jan. 28 report, The Observer said Ronald Craig Bass, 50, 4411 Dunn Road, Hartsfield, was charged Jan. 26 with driving under the influence, open container violation and probation violation in connection with a minor wreck on Camilla Highway. Excluding the probation violation charge, that information came from a Moultrie police report of a November 2001 incident.
Bass was charged with probation violation Thursday because all the penalties from the 2001 incident had not been paid. He paid the remaining penalties following his arrest, according to a Moultrie police report.
