Woman charged with prostitution, man with DUI, both with drugs

Staff Reports

MOULTRIE — Police officers interrupted what they said was a tryst between a man and a prostitute Wednesday night.

Elaine Christful, 27, of 216 Fourth Court N.W., was charged with prostitution, giving false information to an officer, public drunkenness and possession of marijuana less than one ounce.

Jerry Lee Mobley, 57, of 216 30th Ave. N.W., was charged with DUI (fourth offense), driving with a suspended license (fourth offense), no proof of insurance (second offense), driving with a suspended tag, using a tag to conceal identity and possession of marijuana less than one ounce (second offense).

Moultrie police officers were on patrol when they spotted a woman, later identified as Christful, walking on Third Street Northwest at 9:47 p.m. Wednesday. As the officers circled back around to speak with her, they saw her getting into a GMC pickup truck, and she allegedly tried to climb into the driver’s lap.

The officers got behind the truck and got out of their patrol cars when the driver, later identified as Mobley, allegedly drove away at a high rate of speed. The officers got back into their cars and pursued the truck for one block before both Mobley and Christful allegedly tried to flee from it.

When a female officer spoke with Christful, she allegedly identified herself as “Elaine Christopher” and stated she was trying to hook up with Mobley for money. She was placed under arrest after the officer allegedly smelled the odor of an alcoholic beverage, and a search turned up suspected marijuana and a burnt piece of a Brillo pad.

As the other officer spoke with Mobley, he allegedly had slurred speech as he spoke and stated he had picked up Christful for a “date.” As the officer was placing Mobley under arrest, he allegedly tossed a bag that contained suspected marijuana under the truck, and it was picked up by the officer after Mobley was placed in handcuffs.

Both Mobley and Christful were taken to Colquitt County Jail.
