MACON — The Colquitt County Farm Bureau (CCFB) was recently honored at the Georgia Farm Bureau’s Ninth District Annual Meeting.
The CCFB Promotion & Education Committee, chaired by Erline Cannon, received the Promotion & Education Program Award for its involvement in the second annual Agriculture Awareness Event for fourth graders. A joint production with the Colquitt County Young Farmers and the Colquitt County Extension, the event drew approximately 700 students, teachers and parents.
It had 10 exhibits from various sectors of farming and included live animal and farm machinery exhibits. All 10 of Colquitt County’s elementary schools attended the event.
The Georgia Farm Bureau’s Ninth District includes 14 counties in Southwest Georgia. Donald Horne serves as the CCFB president.
Founded in 1937, Georgia Farm Bureau is the state’s largest general farm organization. Its volunteer members actively participate in local, district and state activities that promote agriculture awareness to their non-farming neighbors. Georgia Farm Bureau also has 20 commodity advisory committees that give the organization input on issues pertinent to the major commodities grown in Georgia.
