MOULTRIE — Three people were taken to area hospitals with injuries from two separate accidents Friday.
Brenda Davis and April Morrissette, 66, both of 244 Highway 26 W., were taken to Colquitt Regional Medical Center following a two-vehicle accident Friday morning. A Chrysler 300, driven by Davis, was on South Veterans Parkway and stopped at the Magnolia Lane intersection about 11:55 a.m. Friday.
When the light turned green, a GMC Yukon, driven by Julie Montgomery, of 292 R.L. Chapman Road in Norman Park, was behind the Chrysler and began to move. She told a Moultrie police officer the Chrysler either slowed or stopped in the roadway, and the Yukon ran into the rear bumper of the Chrysler.
Both vehicles had only slight damage, but Davis and Morrissette, a passenger in the 300, complained of head injuries and were taken to Colquitt Regional by Colquitt County EMS. Montgomery did not complain of any injuries following the collision, but she was cited for following too closely. A hospital spokesperson said Davis and Morrissette were both treated for their injuries and released Friday.
In a second accident, Curtis Allegood, of 243 Indian Creek Subdivision, was taken to Archbold Memorial Hospital in Thomasville for injuries from a two-vehicle accident Friday night. A hospital spokesperson there said he was treated for his injuries and dismissed.
An officer was called to the intersection of Highway 133 South and Hawthorne Drive at 7:26 p.m. Friday about the collision. He spoke with Cartic Kalip, of Albany, who stated he was driving an International semi truck south on Highway 133 South approaching the Hawthorne Drive intersection.
Kalip stated he saw a Dodge Caravan, driven by Allegood, at the stop sign then saw it pull out onto Highway 133 South. Kalip tried to avoid a collision but could not and struck the Caravan. The officer was unable to speak with Allegood following the collision due to his extensive injuries.
Several witnesses told the officer they did not see the collision but did hear it take place. One witness stated the semi truck had its hazard lights on as it went by their house on Highway 133 South. The officer determined Allegood was at fault in the accident, but no citations had been issued to him at the time of report.
