MOULTRIE —
A 20-year-old man’s body was found Friday night in his car near the interstection of Third Avenue Southeast and Circle Drive.
Kirby Luis Yon, of Moultrie, was declared dead at the scene about 11:30 p.m., Colquitt County Deputy Coroner Jeremy Dickens said Saturday. That was about three hours after the initial call came in to the 911 dispatcher.
Dickens said Yon had at least one gunshot wound, but his body will be taken Monday to the GBI Crime Lab to determine the exact cause of his death.
A Moultrie police spokesman said a second person was injured in the incident, but he did not identify that person or tell how he was inivolved in Yon’s shooting. He referred all questions to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, which is conducting the investigation. A GBI spokesman could not be reached on Saturday.
Law enforcement officials said no one has been charged in the case.
According to the Georgia Department of Corrections, Yon was released from prison Aug. 31, 2011, after serving just under a year for false imprisonment and obstruction of an officer in connection with an incident that took place Oct. 4, 2009.
Funeral arrangements will be announced by Cobb Funeral Chapel.
