MOULTRIE — The United Way of Colquitt County is starting its 2010 community campaign in September, with “Live United” as the theme once again.
“We are reaching out to everyone to give, to advocate, to volunteer. The 2010 campaign goal is $420,000 and this money will provide services for more than 4,000 of our citizens here in Colquitt County,” stated Angela Castellow, executive director of United Way of Colquitt County, in a letter to potential sponsors.
A campaign kickoff training breakfast for campaign coordinators will be 8 a.m. Friday, Sept. 11, at Southwest Georgia Community Action Council, 1001 First Ave. S.W., Bldg. #2.
The campaign team is also in the process of planning the 13th Day of Action which will be held on Tuesday, Sept. 22, from noon until 5 p.m. It will include recycling projects and projects of need at United Way-sponsored agencies.
Volunteers will meet in the training room at Southwest Georgia Bank’s administrative/drive-thru building, located at 205 Second St. S.E., for pictures and to eat lunch. The volunteers will then be bused out into the community to work on the different projects. They will be picked up between 4 and 4:30 p.m. and returned to the training room. Each volunteer will receive a T-shirt to wear to the event.
Agencies that will benefit from the Day of Action include the Children’s Cheer and Toy Shop, Green Oaks Center, Hero House, Hope House, Colquitt County Arts Center, Crossroads Rescue Mission, Habitat for Humanity and the Society of St. Andrew Gleaning Project.
“We truly believe this is a community-building event for Colquitt County,” stated Donna Lott, Day of Action coordinator.
Other events being held by United Way of Colquitt County are the Bring a Can, Get a Fan food drive, which will benefit the Colquitt Food Bank on Friday, Sept. 18, at the football game (anyone bringing canned food items will receive a hand fan) and an Electronics Recycling Event on Sept. 22, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., at the Farmers Market, behind Market Barbeque. For more information on electronic items that will be accepted, call the City of Moultrie Public Works Department at 890-5423.
