MOULTRIE — A man whose dog reportedly bit a 5-year-old child on Tuesday was cited for letting the animal run at large, but the bulldog escaped capture at the time, running into a wooded area.

Moultrie police and the Humane Society of Moultrie-Colquitt County were summoned at 5:31 p.m. to a residence in the first block of 23rd Street Southeast to investigate the incident. When they arrived, the white bulldog was in the road, but it kept out of reach the animal control officer’s catch pole, police reports said.

The dog led the officials around the house several times before it ran into the woods.

Ivalissa Hood of Thomasville reported that the child was bitten on the left calf.

When the dog’s owner, Chancey Harris, arrived home, he told them that the dog was chained when he left for work. He was issued citations for an unleashed dog and vicious dog at large, police reports said.

The child did not require hospitalization.



Assaults

Cindy Alderman, 200 block Eighth Street Southwest, reported Tuesday that a male acquaintance came to her residence while she was gone, with her children reporting that they were assaulted when they told him to leave.

One of the children, who is 13, reported that when told to leave, the man pushed him, went into the kitchen and began eating chicken and drinking orange juice.

A 9-year-old child told the officer that the man struck him several times after he told the man to stop eating the food.

After eating, the man left, police reports said.



Arrests

Moultrie Police Department

• Michelle Renee Powell, 33, 1509 Hutchinson Drive, was charged Monday with two counts of probation violation.

• John Paul Lewis, 29, 1605 Hutchinson Drive, was charged Tuesday with probation violation.

• Danny Lamar Thomas, 42, 406 Seventh Ave. S.E., was charged Tuesday with two counts of probation violation.



Colquitt County Sheriff’s Office

• Adrian Maurese Ziegler, 43, 904 Highland Blvd., was charged Tuesday with robbery by intimidation.



Thefts

Moultrie Police Department

• Marlana Wilcher, 600 block South Main Street, reported Wednesday that a male companion stole two cell telephones from a motel room they share.

Wilcher told the officer that as she and the man were arguing Tuesday night he grabbed the phones and ran away with his cousin.

The two Samsung phones had a value of $60.



Colquitt County Sheriff’s Office

• Boring Glass Co., 638 Industrial Drive, reported Tuesday the theft of an air conditioner valued at $800.

• Damon Newton, 1300 block U.S. Highway 319 North, reported Tuesday the theft of property, including a computer, valued at $2,000.

Newton told the officer that a relative with whom he was living kicked him out on Saturday. She called and told him his property was in her yard, but when he arrived only two bags of clothes were outside.

Newton reported that he suspects the woman pawned his computer. The woman told the officer that Newton removed all of his property on Saturday.



Property damage

Moultrie Police Department

• Taviya Lovett, Moultrie, reported Tuesday while driving by a group of children one of them threw a rock, cracking the windshield of a 1995 Toyota Camry.

Lovett reported that she turned around to ask who threw the rock but the children were gone.
