Norman Park plans Veterans Day festival Saturday

MOULTRIE — Everything from a barbecue to pony rides will mark the first annual Veterans Day celebration in Norman Park on Saturday.

The day begins at 7 a.m. with registration for a 5K walk/run that will start at 8.am. Festival grounds open at 10 a.m. for music from Kick Fire and the Colquitt County jazz band.

At 12:15 Norman Park Mayor Bruce Norton will deliver opening remarks and lead the Pledge of Allegiance. He will be followed with an address by Congressman Austin Scott.

At 1:30 on a second stage a pet show begins followed by a presentation by Mothers Against Drunk Driving. Laurie Joe’s Southern Style Canning cook-off winners will be named at 3:30.

On the main stage more music will follow Scott’s address. Scheduled to perform beginning at 12:45 are Eric amd Kim Rountree, Southern Gospel, Dogs at Lunch and Just June.

Barbecue plates will be sold for $8 and may be purchased in advance at Norman Park City Hall or from any member of the Urban Revitalization Agency. The meal is complementary for military veterans and their spouses. Reservations for the lunch can be made at 229-769-3611.

Throughout the day arts and crafts vendors will be on display and free kids activities include pony rides, face painting and a bouncy house. Food vendors will have chips, drinks and barbecue.

Registration for the pet show and the 5K run is being held at City Hall. Pet show signup is $5 and $25 for the run.
