MOULTRIE — Police say a Moultrie man will be charged once released from the hospital. He was stabbed allegedly trying to break into a house early Thursday morning.

Johnny Gary, 35, of Moultrie, will be charged with burglary, police said.

A Moultrie police officer was called to a house on Fifth Avenue Northwest at 12:08 a.m. Thursday about an unwanted guest. The officer first met with Gary, who was in front of the house and had a cloth wrapped around his right hand.

Gary stated his girlfriend had stabbed him in the right hand, and he was taken to Colquitt Regional Medical Center for treatment. The officer then spoke with his girlfriend, Lovonne Young, who stated they had been drinking and had been arguing and fighting all day Wednesday, police reports stated.

Young asked Gary to leave the house Wednesday, and she stated he returned late Wednesday night. As he tried to get into the house through a window, Young grabbed a knife and stabbed him in the hand, the reports said.

Officers initially placed Young under arrest, but a Moultrie police investigator instructed them to release her because she had the right to defend herself, the reports said. A hospital spokesperson said Gary was listed in good condition Thursday afternoon.
