MOULTRIE — Three photographers provided photos of Moultrie's Christmas parade to The Observer Thursday night.
Reporter Alan Mauldin and Connie Southwell, a frequent contributor of photographs, positioned themselves in the crowd and shot floats as they came by.
Newsroom Manager Kevin Hall, however, carried his camera into a place no Observer photographer has been in years — if ever! He sat on The Observer's own float, about a dozen entries back from the head of the parade.
Hall, who joined The Observer as news editor in December 1997, said this is the first time The Observer has fielded a float since he's been here.
The Observer's float, based on a 1950s theme, included a desk with antique typewriter, a "newsboy" on a bicycle, and children gathered around the Christmas tree as they wrote their letters to Santa Claus. The Observer has published Santa letters since 1915, and this year will print the letters in multiple editions beginning Saturday. The letters will also be published online the day they publish in the print edition; click on the Christmas 2012 tab in the index at left and check back often for updates.
