MOULTRIE — A Moultrie man was arrested after he allegedly crossed over North Veterans Parkway while “huffing” compressed air Tuesday afternoon.
Douglas Von Turley, 38, of 102 Poplar Trail, was charged Tuesday with DUI and failure to maintain lane.
Moultrie police officers were called to the North Veterans Parkway and Tifton Highway intersection at 3:06 p.m. Tuesday about a possible intoxicated driver. The officers spoke with a passing motorist, who stated he saw a Saturn SL1 sitting in a ditch off of North Veterans Parkway, police reports stated.
The motorist said he spoke with the Saturn’s driver, identified as Turley, and he was allegedly described as appearing to be high. The officers then spoke with Turley, who stated he was not injured but allegedly did not know how he got there. The officers described hiim as not being aware of his surroundings when they spoke with him.
The officers asked Turley what he had been doing, and he allegedly stated he was “huffing” on compressed air from aerosol cans. He told the officers he had been inhaling the air at the Chevron station because he “had a bad week and just wanted to pass out.” The officers searched the Saturn and found four cans of compressed air, the report said.
Turley was then placed under arrest and taken to Colquitt Regional Medical Center for a blood test. He was then taken to Colquitt County Jail.
