MOULTRIE —
A Poulan woman reported she was attacked because she was trying to protect some children Thursday afternoon.
A Moultrie police officer was called to Colquitt Regional Medical Center at 5:56 p.m. Thursday about the incident. The officer spoke with Natasha Harris, who stated she was leaving a friend’s apartment and heading back to her sister’s apartment at Northgate Apartments on Fourth Avenue Northeast.
As she pulled up to a four-way stop intersection somewhere in Northwest Moultrie, Harris stated she saw an unknown black female yelling and cursing at children. Harris told the woman she should not be yelling and cursing at children, and the woman threatened to get out of her vehicle and beat Harris up if she did not mind her own business, police reports stated.
Harris told the officer she kept saying something to the woman because she was offended for the children. The woman got out of her vehicle, walked up to Harris and choked her and hit her in the face. Harris fell to the ground, and the woman got back into her vehicle and left the scene, the reports said.
A hospital spokesperson said Harris was treated for her injuries and released Thursday.

• Debra Denise King, 41, of 621 Fourth Ave. S.W., was charged Thursday with disorderly conduct.
• Francine Evone King, 38, of 621 Fourth Ave. S.W., was charged Thursday with disorderly conduct (fourth offense).
• Lawrence William Banks Jr., 23, of 700 First St. S.W., Apt. 7, was charged Thursday with driving with a suspended license (fourth offense).
• Kayse Lyne Miller, 20, of 703 Hillcrest Ave., was charged Thursday with criminal damage to property (second degree).
Colquitt County Sheriff’s Office
• John Daniel Melton, 37, of 1509 Hutchinson Drive, was charged Thursday with theft by receiving stolen property and theft by deception.
• James Monroe Skeen, 17, of 531 Seminole Drive, was charged Friday with illegal possession of alcohol.
• Shaventreon Jacody Shannon, 21, of 211 11th Ave. S.E., was charged Thursday with theft by receiving stolen property.
Georgia State Patrol
• Samuel Lavoy Johnson, 37, of 2035 E. Pinetree Blvd., Apt. E-4, in Thomasville, was charged Thursday with DUI, an open container violation, failure to maintain lane and failure to register a vehicle.
Berlin Police
• Alfred Colbert Jr., 30, of 2601 Lowndes Drive in Valdosta, was charged Thursday with speeding and driving with a suspended license.

• An employee at Stringfellow Elementary School on Fifth Avenue Southwest reported a student brought a cell phone to school with adult material on it between 8 a.m. Wednesday and 6:57 a.m. Thursday.
• Christie Cox and Samantha Sprayberry reported someone painted an unknown substance on their Chevrolet Equinox and Oldsmobile Intrigue while they were parked at Wal-Mart on South Veterans Parkway between 10 a.m. Thursday and 3:55 a.m. Friday.
Colquitt County Sheriff’s Office
• Esther Lashley, of Tallokas Street, reported Thursday a thief stole a baby ring, a cluster ring, a wedding band and four rings and pawned them April 30. The value of the stolen rings was $9,425. Lashley gave sheriff’s deputies the name of a male suspect.
• Donald Carey, of Doe Lane, reported a thief stole two heaters, two digital cameras, a window air conditioning unit and various other items between April 1 and 3 p.m. Wednesday. The value of the stolen items was $610. Carey gave sheriff’s deputies the names of a female suspect and two male suspects.
