MOULTRIE —
A business employee, a church member and 11 Colquitt County residents reported they or family members were recent victims of property theft. Items reported stolen included cash, electronics, yard tools, guns, jewelry, two vehicles, clothing, food items, medication and air conditioners.
The value of the items reported stolen was $21,907. Those who reported being the victims of theft were:
• A member at Norman Grove Missionary Baptist Church on Ninth Avenue Southeast reported a thief stole a window air conditioning unit between 7 p.m. Wednesday and 4:30 p.m. Thursday. The value of the stolen air conditioner was $200.
• Heriberto Molina reported a thief stole his wallet, containing $120 cash, his license, his Social Security card and residency papers, from his pants pocket while he was staying at the Cocomo Inn on First Avenue Southeast between 1 a.m. and 7:13 a.m. Friday.
• An employee at the Golden Apple on Fifth Avenue Southeast reported a thief forced open a utility room door and stole a Poulan chainsaw, a Poulan hedger an a bag with tools inside between 6 p.m. Thursday and 9:31 a.m. Friday. The value of the stolen items was $450.
• Patricia Gregory, of Ninth Street Southwest, reported a thief stole her husband’s jewelry box, containing jewelry, $800 cash and guns, Friday. The value of the stolen items was $5,777.
• Fincher Lynwood, of 26th Street Southeast, reported a thief threw a brick through a front window and stole a shotgun Friday. The value of the stolen shotgun was $300.
• Steven Knight reported a thief stole his Ford Mustang while it was parked at Domino’s Pizza on South Main Street between 8:30 p.m. and 10:29 p.m. Friday. The value of the stolen car was $5,000.
• Johnny Taylor, of 15th Avenue Southwest, reported a thief stole a set of keys to his Ford Expedition and stole the Expedition between 9:50 a.m. and 11 a.m. Saturday. The value of the stolen items was $4,001.
• Murriel Welch, of Fourth Street Northwest, reported a thief stole a shawl and a dress Saturday. The value of the stolen items was $100.
• Miyakia Lewis reported a thief kicked open the rear door of a relative’s rental property on
Tallokas Estates and stole an LG 52-inch television and a Sony 10-inch television between June 15 and 9:30 p.m. Sunday. The value of the stolen televisions was $3,250.
• Steven Lucky, of Highway 319 North, reported a thief stole Hydrocodone pills, a ham, a roast, two boxes of macaroni and cheese, razors, a bottle of Texas Pete hot sauce, dish towels and rags between 4 p.m. Saturday and noon Sunday. The value of the stolen items was $185. Lucky gave sheriff’s deputies the name of a female suspect.
• Crystal Haman, of Zion Grove Church Road, reported a thief stole a Troy Bilt weed eater from her porch between 10:30 p.m. Friday and 8 a.m. Saturday. The value of the stolen weed eater was $125.
• Colin Terrell, of Dunn Road, reported a thief stole a Sony 48-inch television from his living room between 11 a.m. and 5 p.m. Saturday. The value of the stolen television was $1,700.
• Sandra Phillips, of Janette Lane, reported Friday a thief stole a window air conditioning unit from her storage shed between Oct. 31 and June 15. The value of the stolen air conditioner was $699.

Moultrie Police
• Darlene Lewis, of Second Street Southeast, reported someone broke out a passenger window of her Chevrolet Suburban between 6 p.m. Friday and 7:39 a.m. Saturday. Damage was estimated at about $500.
Colquitt County Sheriff’s Office
• Anna Myers reported someone threw a rock through the rear window of her stepfather’s Dodge Neon, which also cracked the windshield, while it was parked at Boone’s Tire on Highway 133 South between 6:30 p.m. Friday and 2:20 p.m. Saturday. Damage was estimated at $400.

Wayne Littles: From Moultrie to the moon shot … and beyond
The year J. Wayne Littles graduated from Moultrie High School — 1957 — Russia launched the world’s first man-made satellite, Sputnik 1. The Space Race was on, and America was losing.
Five years later, with a mechanical engineering degree from Georgia Tech in his hand, Littles joined the competition. Over the next half-century, the Moultrie native helped the United States put a man on the moon, develop a reusable space shuttle and establish a space station.
“I got into the program very early,” Littles recalled. “It was a very exciting time.” -
