Pastor's book urges a meaningful life

MOULTRIE — A hospice chaplain has written a book to help people with their life journeys and finding their destiny.

The Rev. Yolanda Payne, the assistant pastor at Freedom Worship Church in Lenox, said her book, “Prophetic Destiny Defined,” was written to help people embrace God’s gifts to each person. She hopes it helps people to find a reason to get out of bed each morning and find out why they were given the gift of life for that day.

In her work as a hospice chaplain, Payne said she is there to comfort people as they make the transition from this life into the next. She found people at the end of their lives are more concerned with leaving a legacy for their families than how much money they made or what career they may have had. That time becomes a totally spiritual experience for that person, she said.

A question that those at the end of their lives kept posing was what was their purpose in life, Payne said. She felt called to write the book as a way to tell people everyone should live on purpose and find their destiny now before it is too late.

“Life is an assignment,” Payne said. “I believe God has given all of us a gift or talent to help humanity.”

Payne said this is the first book she has ever written, and she is very excited about it. She has been a professional hospital and hospice chaplain for about 10 years, and she had been a volunteer chaplain at the Colquitt County E-911 Center for about a year. She loves being able to help people when they are in crisis, whether those at the end of their lives, families or those who handle emergency response calls on a daily basis.

“Prophetic Destiny Defined” is out now, and Payne said it can be found on the Amazon.com, Barnes and Noble and Books-a-Million websites. It will also be available at any bookstore within the next few months. Her church, Freedom Worship Church in Lenox, will also be having a book debut and signing at 4 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 1.
