MOULTRIE —
Two forged American Express travelers checks returned recently to a Moultrie grocery store are believed tied to a couple arrested last week, a Moultrie Police Department spokesman said.
Melody Monique Williams, 24, and Antonio Stewart, 29, both of 332 27th St. S.E. Apt. 3, were each charged last week with one count of forgery. They are accused of passing multiple forged travelers checks in the amount of $500 at a Wal-Mart store in Moultrie.
On Tuesday, Harvey’s, 1209 First Ave. S.E., reported that two fake $500 American Express checks had been passed at the store on Dec. 23.
A store employee reported that the checks had been endorsed by “Antonie Stewart,” who gave his driver’s license information at the time.
“They’re related to that,” said Cpl. Dave Underwood, an investigator with the Moultrie Police Department, said of the earlier forgeries. “I wasn’t surprised. I had already heard Harvey’s come up when we talked with those two.
“I’m halfway expecting a couple more coming in.”
