Four people, including a 16-year-old girl, were apprehended after they were allegedly in a vehicle that fled from a Colquitt County sheriff’s deputy Saturday night.
The 16-year-old girl was charged with various traffic offenses. Matthew Damien Rogers, 20, of 1988 Funston-Sale City Road, and Joshua Wayne Melton, 24, of 2014 Funston-Sale City Road in Funston, were each charged with obstruction. Colin Terrell Jr., 18, of 167 Liberty Hill Road, was charged with disorderly conduct.
A deputy on patrol spotted a Cadillac Deville waiting on the light at the First Avenue Southeast and Veterans Parkway intersection without its light on at 9:42 p.m. Saturday. As the car turned onto Veterans Parkway, the deputy turned his patrol car around and turned on his blue lights to pull it over, and the driver had turned the headlights on before the deputy got behind it.
The Cadillac, however, allegedly continued to drive on Veterans Parkway, speeding up an allegedly running the red lights at the Tifton Highway intersection and the Highway 133 North and Highway 33 North intersection. As the driver, later identified as the 16-year-old girl, allegedly sped up and continued on Highway 133 North, a second deputy set up spike sticks at the Old Doerun Road intersection to stop the Cadillac.
When the driver spotted the second deputy and the spike sticks, she allegedly tried to make a left turn onto Old Doerun Road, losing control of the Cadillac. The car went into a ditch, and two white males, later identified as Rogers and Melton, allegedly fled the car on foot. The 16-year-old girl and Terrell were placed under arrest at the scene.
Deputies chased after Melton and Rogers on foot until Melton gave up and was placed under arrest. Rogers was found allegedly hiding underneath an SUV, and he was ordered to come out but refused to obey the deputy, authorities said. A deputy sprayed Rogers in the eyes with pepper spray, and he came out from underneath the SUV and was placed under arrest.
All four were then taken to Colquitt County Jail, and the Cadillac was towed from the scene.
