Moultrians robbed at gunpoint

Staff Reports

MOULTRIE — Two Moultrie residents reported being robbed at gunpoint in separate incidents over the weekend.

A Moultrie police officer was called to Shy Manor Apartments on Shy Manor Drive at 9:51 p.m. Friday about an armed robbery. The officer spoke with Lisa Hutson, who stated she left her apartment and had just made it to the intersection of Northside Drive and Elliot Brown Street when she got a call from her son saying he had just been robbed.

The officer went to the apartment and spoke with the son, who stated he heard a knock on the door and the person outside calling him by name. When he opened the door, a black male wearing all black clothes and a ski mask was standing there, and he pointed a pistol at the son’s stomach.

The robber demanded money from the son, and the young man stated he walked back to a hallway, with the robber right behind him, and retrieved an undetermined amount of cash from a drawer. He gave the cash to the robber, who fled from the apartment and was last seen running through the complex. The son was not injured in the robbery.

In a second incident, officers were called to a house on Sixth Avenue Northwest at 2:17 a.m. Monday about a robbery. They met with Abe Dennis, who stated he picked up two males about 1 a.m. at the VFW Park and dropped them off at an unknown house in Southwest Moultrie.

As Dennis went to put his vehicle in park, he stated the two men pulled out pistols and demanded money from him. They stole a variety of items, including $26 cash, a pair of Nike shoes, a Dickies coat and 12 gold teeth, from Dennis. The value of the stolen items was $531.

After taking all of the items, Dennis said the two men began hitting him in the face with their pistols. They forced Dennis to get out of the car, a rented Chevrolet Malibu, and left him there and stole the car. He was able to walk to a friend’s house, who took him back to his house.

Dennis had significant swelling to his face from being hit with the pistols, but he did not go to Colquitt Regional Medical Center for treatment. He provided officers with the names of two male suspects in the robbery.
