MOULTRIE — Dealing with the loss of a child, grandchild or sibling, no matter their age, can be an agonizing ordeal that doesn’t simply go away with the passing of time. Each year, a Colquitt Regional candle lighting service is held to remember and commemorate the lives of these children.
The candle lighting service is scheduled for Thursday, May 6, at 7 p.m. at Autreyville Baptist Church with music provided by Sarah Murphy and Abby Willis. Wanda Goble, whose 30-year-old daughter died suddenly at her home last year, will be the guest speaker and will talk about how she has coped with her grief.
This year’s program will feature a display with the pictures of the children who are being remembered. Those who would like to submit pictures for the display should include the child’s name, birth date, Heaven date and parents’ names, along with the picture, to Sandra Cook, Colquitt Regional Case Management, P.O. Box 40, Moultrie, GA 31776.
Those who feel they cannot share their children’s picture are encouraged to submit the other information to be a part of the display. Those with loved ones being honored will receive a memento in memory of their child.
“This will be a heartwarming experience,” Cook said. “Whether the child died two months ago or 20 years ago and whether he or she was born too soon or died as an adult, their loved ones are invited to participate. We hope this will be a meaningful event that will at least provide a small measure of comfort and peace in their lives.”
