License check leads to 8 arrests

MOULTRIE — Moultrie police officers conducting a license check on the West Bypass Sunday morning landed eight people in Colquitt County Jail.

The officers set up the check on the West Bypass at the Fourth Avenue Northwest intersection and were there from about 9 a.m. until about 12:30 p.m. While most of the arrests were for traffic-related offenses, officers found one driver with suspected marijuana and another that was wanted in another county.

Those apprehended during the license check were:

• Walter Lee Grier, 47, of 506 Northside Drive, was charged with driving with a suspended license, defective equipment, possession of marijuana less than one ounce and an open container violation.

• Matthew James Holton, 26, of 103 Bridgeboro-Anderson City Road in Doerun, was charged with driving with a suspended license.

• Elizabeth Perez, 28, of 1326 Lonnie Brookard Road, was charged with driving without a license and two counts of a child restraint violation.

• Fidel Venegas Cruz, 33, of 821 Circle Road, Lot 33, was charged with driving without a license.

• Carmelo Perez, 48, of 367 Yogi Bear Blvd. in Norman Park, was charged with driving without a license.

• Justin David Carroll, 22, of 185 Ruth St., was charged with driving with a suspended license and a bench warrant.

• Antonio Hernandez, 27, of 145 Circle Road, was charged with driving without a license.

• Manuel Moreno, 28, of 2304 Eisenhower Strip, was charged with driving without a license.

• Michael A. Hawkins, 42, of 212 Third St. N.W., was charged Saturday with disorderly conduct, possession of marijuana less than one ounce and public drunkenness.

• Terence Grant, 20, of 1330 Highway 319 N., Lot 67, in Norman Park, was charged Saturday with trespassing and possession of marijuana less than one ounce.

• Natasha M. Hill, 32, of 1313 Bay Leaf Road, was charged Saturday with simple battery (family violence).

• Shenika Hunt, 26, of 120 Fourth St. S.W., Apt. 7, was charged Saturday with simple battery (family violence).

• Torrance Tyrone Pinkins, 19, of 1956 Sylvester Highway, Lot 23, was charged Saturday with possession of marijuana less than one ounce, failure to stop at a stop sign and driving with a suspended license.

• Oscar Danny Smith, 57, of 219 Moncrief Road, was charged Friday with disorderly conduct and public drunkenness.

• Charles Anthony Epps, 29, of 590 Tree Farm Road, was charged Friday with disorderly conduct.

• Sammy Lee Phillips, 49, of 719 Eighth Ave. S.E., was charged Sunday with making terroristic threats and acts.



Sheriff’s Office

• Demetrius Jermaine Motes, 23, of 908 E. Brookwood Drive in Valdosta, was charged Friday with two counts of possession of a cell phone by an inmate.

• Zhatravius Martin, 19, of 127 Peachtree Circle in Funston, was charged Saturday with a seatbelt violation and possession of marijuana less than one ounce.



Georgia State Patrol

• Levon Daniels, 38, of 216 11th Court S.E., was charged Saturday with driving without a license and a seatbelt violation.

• Dewayne Harold East, 42, of 399 Highway 111, was charged Saturday with driving with a suspended license.

• Teresa Ann Coleman, 44, of 1522 Funston-Sale City Road, was charged Friday with DUI, failure to maintain lane, driving with a suspended license and speeding.



Other Incidents

Moultrie Police

• Wanda McCray, of Fourth Avenue Northeast, reported a male acquaintance kicked open her door between 6:55 p.m. Saturday and 12:20 a.m. Sunday. Damage was estimated at about $100.

• An employee at Prepaid Zone on Sixth Street Southeast reported a thief stole an LG cell phone Saturday. The value of the stolen cell phone was $240.

• Jack East reported Saturday a thief stole an Apple iPod from his girlfriend’s house on Third Street Southeast Feb. 2 and pawned it. The value of the stolen iPod was $250. East gave officers the name of a male suspect.

• Sarah Brown, of Third Street Southeast, reported two black males punctured all four tires, scratched all over and scratched an obscenity into the hood and trunk of her Oldsmobile 88 Saturday. Damage was about $500.

• Margaret Campoli, of 10th Avenue Southeast, reported a female acquaintance stole a borrowed Compaq laptop computer, a leather briefcase and papers between 11 a.m. and 5 p.m. Friday. The value of the stolen items was $521.

• Otis Bonner, of Third Street Northwest, reported someone keyed all over his Ford F-150 between 10 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Friday. Damage was estimated at about $500.



Sheriff’s Office

• Charles Epps, of Tree Farm Road, reported a thief stole $143 cash from a hat in his bedroom between 3 a.m. and 7:30 a.m. Friday. Epps gave sheriff’s deputies the name of a female suspect.

• An employee at Eagle Craft on Kendallwood Church Road reported a thief kicked in a back door and stole $100 cash between 9 p.m. Friday and 8 a.m. Saturday. Damage and the value of the stolen cash was about $120.
