Suspect injures himself during trip to county jail

MOULTRIE — A Hartsfield man was apprehended after he allegedly let the air out of two vehicle tires Saturday evening. After his apprehension, he allegedly injured himself in a Colquitt County sheriff’s deputy’s vehicle.

Shannon Lee Bryant, 24, of 356 T. Davis Road in Hartsfield, was charged Saturday with malicious mischief.

A Moultrie police officer was called to Harvey’s Supermarket on First Avenue Southeast about 6:20 p.m. Saturday about damage to property. The officer spoke with Janice Lariscey, who stated she was outside the supermarket when she allegedly saw Bryant, her ex-boyfriend, get out of a Nissan Altima and walk to her Honda Civic.

While standing next to Lariscey’s Civic, Bryant allegedly shoved an unknown object into a tire as he got back into the Altima and fled the scene. It was later found he had only let the air out of two tires on the Civic, the police reported stated.

Following the incident, Colquitt County sheriff’s deputies were contacted and went to Bryant’s house to locate him. His mother stated he was at the house, but he was found allegedly trying to flee out the back door. A deputy caught up to him and placed him under arrest, putting him into a patrol car to take him to Colquitt County Jail, the report said.

While on the way to the jail, Bryant allegedly hit his head twice on the patrol car’s cage, causing two lacerations to his forehead. The deputy stopped his car, and he and a second deputy pulled Bryant out of the car and requested Colquitt County EMS to the scene for treatment of the lacerations.

Bryant was allegedly combative with the EMS personnel as he was being treated for the lacerations. He was loaded onto a stretcher but had to be restrained to it as he was taken to Colquitt Regional Medical Center for treatment, officers said. After being released from the hospital, he was taken to Colquitt County Jail.
