MOULTRIE — A time of renewing old friendships with classmates of years past will be enjoyed by those attending the Reedy Creek School Reunion April 3. The reunion will be held at Ray Norman's Meeting Building, located at 776 Ira Hall Road.
Beginning at the "old" Reedy Creek School, signs will be posted along Highway 37 East with directions to the meeting location. Registration begins at 10 a.m. with a time of fellowship followed by the meeting starting at 11 a.m. President Jackie Simmons Hart will bring the group to order, and a brief meeting will be held until 11:30 a.m.
At 11:30 a.m., a seafood and chicken lunch, catered by Roscoe Gay, will be served. The meeting will continue after lunch with classmates sharing school day memories.
Robbie Lewis Green will conduct a memorial service to honor all known Reedy Creek teachers, students, and workers who have been deceased since April 1, 2008. These names may be submitted to Green by e-mail at wasuda@hotmail.com or by phone at 229-782-5390.
The original school opened its doors to students in 1909. Remnants of Reedy Creek School are located on the Adel Highway in eastern Colquitt County. For over 75 years, it served as the elementary school for thousands of Colquitt County children.
In 1986, the doors were closed to its students bringing to an end an educational facility where some of its former students and even their children had attended. Interesting displays of Reedy Creek School photographs and memorabilia for everyone to enjoy will be displayed. Attendees are encouraged to bring their school items to share with the group.
The Executive Committee and former students are putting forth an effort to contact those who are not attending the Reedy Creek School Reunion meetings. Readers are encouraged to spread the word concerning this upcoming reunion April 3 to all former students and employees.
Secretary Ernestine Dismuke will be pleased to add names to the mailing list for Reunion 2010. She may be contacted by phone at 229-891-3915 or by e-mail at erniedismuke@yahoo.com.
To make reservations for the 2010 Reedy Creek School Reunion, please send $15 per attendee no later than March 25, payable to Reedy Creek School Reunion. Forward to Latrelle Young Barnwell, Treasurer, 4035 Georgia Highway 37 E., Moultrie, GA 31788.
