MOULTRIE —
A Moultrie teen was apprehended after he allegedly hit a man with a pipe and waved around a knife Monday evening.
Eric Chafin, 17, of 138 Lighter Knot Court, was charged with battery and six counts of disorderly conduct.
A Colquitt County sheriff’s deputy was called to a house on Lighter Knot Court at 7:37 p.m. Monday about a possible fight. The deputy spoke with Barbara Chafin, who stated her son, identified as Eric, came over to the house to allegedly start a fight with her daughter’s boyfriend, Will Smith.
Smith told the deputy Eric Chafin hit him with a pipe he had brought from his house across the street. Smith had two cut marks on his left arm and a cut mark to his stomach.
Barbara Chafin told the deputy Eric was yelling and cussing at other people in the house, allegedly trying to start a fight with them. Eric ran out of the house, throwing the pipe in the yard, and came back with a knife, she said. He allegedly was waving it around and yelling and cussing from the middle of the roadway.
The deputy found Eric Chafin at his house, and he was placed under arrest there. As he was being brought to the deputy’s patrol car, Eric allegedly began yelling and cussing again before being taken to Colquitt County Jail.

Wayne Littles: From Moultrie to the moon shot … and beyond
The year J. Wayne Littles graduated from Moultrie High School — 1957 — Russia launched the world’s first man-made satellite, Sputnik 1. The Space Race was on, and America was losing.
Five years later, with a mechanical engineering degree from Georgia Tech in his hand, Littles joined the competition. Over the next half-century, the Moultrie native helped the United States put a man on the moon, develop a reusable space shuttle and establish a space station.
“I got into the program very early,” Littles recalled. “It was a very exciting time.” -
