REED BINGHAM STATE PARK —
Reed Bingham State Park is gearing up for an active January with four events already on the calendar — not counting the First of the Year Hike that was scheduled for Tuesday.
Other events on tap include:
Homeschool at the Park, Thursdsay, Jan. 10, 10 a.m.-3 p.m.
The park will host homeschoolers once a month. Each month will cover a different topic relating to science, nature, and the outdoors. The day will be divided up into two sessions and will cover the same topic on an appropriate level for that age group. Session 1: 10 a.m.-noon for children 9 and younger. Session 2: 1 p.m.-3 p.m. for children 10 and older
Price is $3 in child, but families must register in advance.
Focus on Fitness Hike, Saturday, Jan. 12, 4-5 p.m.
Join the interpretative ranger to hike along the upland loop nature trail, which is also the park’s fitness trail. Stop along markers to do jumping jacks and other fitness related activities. Please wear appropriate workout clothes, jogging shoes and bring water.
The event is free. Meet at the trail head of the upland loop.
Hiking Stick Making, Saturday, Jan. 19, noon-1 p.m.
Meet at the stage located at the campgrounds to create your very own hiking stick. Materials will be provided however visitors must provide their own knives for carving or whittling.
Price is $8 per stick.
Fox Frolic, Friday, Jan. 25, 7-9 p.m.
Did you know that many of Georgia’s native species are most active at night? Join the interpretative ranger for a night time hike to experience why many creatures prefer the night. Meet at the nature nook, which will be open from 7 to 8 with the hike starting promptly at 8.
Visiting the nook costs $1.
